Hotel In Amsterdam
As above, going with the Missus and two other couples in May. Any recommendations/places to avoid. Looking for somewhere clean, reasonably priced and fairly central to station/touristy bits please. Cheers in advance

We use these every year, not a Hotel but much better for our needs. Easier to socialise with your friends as you can get a living area as well. Smoke friendly too

I've stayed here before, good, clean and reasonable price:
Hotel Amsterdam - De Roode Leeuw in Amsterdam
It's walking distance from the central station and slap bang in the tourist area. Would recommend it...

We stay in the marriot, in rembrandt square when on jollies with the lads!
Its not far from the madness of the red light district and surrounding areas!
Has two really good coffee shops, and a street full of decent restaurants nearby
And it was 125 euro each for two nights, and we spent about 50 euro each on room service!
Mini bar is a rip off though! bring your own drinks back!

Do you reckon it would be OK for the Ladies too. I've stayed in a few grotty places with the lads and know full well that her 'indoors would have complained about something!!
Thanks to all for replying, much appreciated.

Yes, its a class place with excellent staff and good facilities!
I would have no hesitation in booking with my other half!
If anything, its a bit ott when out to get smashed for 3 days with the lads
Room service is excellent, cant beat a fillet steak brought to your room at 4 in the morning!
Rooms are on the large side, and most have some sort of view, beds are sweet and the hotel and surrounding area is clean and a bit upmarket
A different world from staying near the grasshopper in the red light zone, but only five minutes away by tram, or a ten minute walk down the main shopping street!

Have used Citymundo.com for the past few years.
Great selection and cheaper than hotels.
Plus you don't have to cover the gap around the door with towels if you want a puff.

I always stay at Hotel Arena but it's not in the centre. We like it as it has it's own nightclub and we wobble to and fro to the centre on hired bikes.
It's an ex convent IIRC

The Crowne Plaza is pretty good, if you take one of their rooms on the club floor you have complimentary minibar, club lounge with free bar and snacks with breakfast included for about 50 euro over a normal room. I sometimes use it when staying alone in Amsterdam on business.
It's in a great location on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal and is a brisk 5 minute stroll to the RLD and just round the corner from the fantastic beer bar mentioned in the 'Amsterdam' thread.

Best to go when it's off season I find, far more relaxed and far less Iiinnggeerrrlluuunnnddd types trying to convince the prositutes to provide a S&F for €20 and a couple of B&H.
