Nostaglic. A bit rose tinted spectacles...
But I like it
A good old period song and the sound of a merlin - One of the few things that sounds better than a scoob.

I never get tired of that sound

By the way they are turning Bently Priory into private flats.
(What happened there in 1940 was a major factor in determining that we are now not speaking German or Russain and that much of world now has some level of freedom of speach)

Much better

(would be better if she was not singing over the engine note. Its not a bad song, its just better heard separate from the main event )

i love the spitfire noise. luckily at the minute i am working just over the road from rolls royce at filton in bristol and there is usually one flying over the site along with a mustang sometimes.

love the noise, especially when it dives towards the site.

had all sorts of interesting stuff come over. the eurofighter, red arrows, vc10's a380 etc.

even managed to abort the a380 landing as air traffic control didnt give us enough time to get the crane down.

Hayes manual on....! LOL You are having a laugh!

Always sends a tingle down the spine the sound of a merlin.

Me and a mate were poking about on a hurricane Battle of Britain crash site in woodland of a landowner we know Ashford this winter - where a brave young man ended his life back in 1940. All of a sudden we hear a Merlin out of the stillness. A Mustang (merlin engined) comes along and beats it up twice not far off tree top level over the crash site. Cant put it in to words really,,, but it really was a moment.

Yes I can imagine it was.

I saw the Haynes book in the shop window-she said it was about £20 as far as she knew

I helped organise a 1940's summer dance at a friends airfield a few years back, to raise money for local charities.

The aircraft hanger was full decked out with 1940's army stuff, and everyone turned up in 1940's clothing. After everyone had arrived, some 200 people, we called everyone outside, to witness the sun setting.

As everyone was watching the sun set, from the opposite direction a spitfire came flying over, low enough to just miss the aircraft hanger, 40ft maximum ground clearance.

As someone who was born in 1975, it seems odd to say, that for a very brief moment, i along with many others pictured themselves in the 1940's!!

To this day, and for a long long time to come, that noise, that feeling, that imagination that engine evoked, will live with me!

Awesome!

Good grief Steven - I never knew there's a "kit" version of the Spitfire!

And it uses an Isuzu engine - tentative Scooby-related link

Website

Being a bit of a plane geek I thought "there was never a Mk26 Spit"; best not visit that site too much or I'll rival Tim for unfinished projects!

Paul - I am not too up on airshows now either ...I know Mark H passed away - but not sure about Ray.

Spider - my mate who I was out with the other day is building a full blown Hurricane Mk1 - He is about half way through it and it has taken years. So just dont even go there

Recording the Battle of Britain in Kent and Sussex has been a real labour of love of mine over the years. I still do it now. If you want to know something **** like what hedge that ME109 crashed into on a particular day and time I am the bloke that probably knows LOL

Not a Spitfire but 4 lovely Merlins & no Doris (Vera) singing over the top of them.

Please excuse the quality as the stills & video were all done on my little Caprio R4 camera.
