Default aw something interesting today

Well depending on how you look at it

Stood outside work today (Liverpool City Centre) havign a smoke, and there was a Polish guy selling the Big Issue, a mate of his came up to him as he recognised him and started talking to him (he was also Polish)

Now the thing that got me, was instead of speaking Polish to each other, they spoke in very broken poor English

Wonder why they chose to do that, dont get us doing that kind of thing in foreign countries, we would always speak our native language

Poland is slightly split, a bit like Spain and dependant on where you come from they use a different dilect for certain sentances but on the whole the majority of the language is similar. Try learning Polish with 2 guys from differing parts of Poland, thats hard I tell thee.

How do you know they were both Polish? There's a lot of Ukrainians, Serbians, Czechs etc. about the place too that to us probably "look" and sound Polish.

Christ - Bigotry, racism and abuse of the swear filter all in one sentence.

That's good going even for you mike

OK, so the racism card is streching the imagination, but hey....

I'm guessing they were both from E Europe but not from Poland.

Or one was from Poland and one was from Portugal. To the untrained ear they sound pretty similar.

I was trying to get a bargain from one of those sellers at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin once. I was talking in my not ever so fluent German and his accent was a bit different too. When we had concluded the deal I asked him if he was from East Germany, he said no and asked if I came from Bavaria.

In the end it turned out that he came from Bradford and was just over there for the summer season! We both felt a right pair of prunes!!!

Hasn't happened to me.... yet!

Edit - I lie , I remember being on the school French trip aged 13 and being instructed to go and interview passers-by; after finding a couple and struggling through the question in my dodgy French, I got the reply in northern English "We don't know love, we're just here on holiday"
