I read about this the other day, the engines would not throttle back and they had to leave them to run out of fuel. I think they even contacted GE/PW/RR or who ever the engine maker was to see if there was some way to shut them down LOL. There was also a mention that the black box showed the a/c operated as it should have....

The engines were Rolls-Royce Trent 500s and, because the cockpit was destroyed, there was no way to control them to change the power setting. Think they ran at idle for about 10 hours before they ran out of fuel!!

Bit embarracing for Airbus - brand new plane written off just moments before it was due to be handed over! The ground runners were very lucky - fortunatelly, no one was killed.
