Not sure I agree Pete. There are already ecclesiastical courts, and special loan systems for muslims. He says "aspects of" sharia law, not the whole thing.

The problem is the headline plays to the fear that British Christians would one day be subjected to sharia law, which is utter bollox. Still, gets the usual suspects foaming at the mouth.

By the way, wasn't Christmas banned last year?

Well apart from the fact I don't recognise this country anymore......some of the Sharia law stuff seems far more effective than our weak, watered down load of junk.

It's almost certain to happen as muslims are immigrating in large numbers to Western countries, and they have very large families so quickly grow in numbers. As soon as they have enough to win a majority vote then Sharia law it is

And the problem is that many people in this country will stand by and allow it to happen. Sharia law is, largely speaking, against everything that the liberals, who would support its implementation in British Islamic communities, usually stand for; let alone the reaction it would draw from more conservative elements of British Society.

As for "encouraging social cohesion" - utter tripe from the AoC (Shock there huh?) - all it would achieve is provide another divisive barrier between "Them" and "Us" on both sides of the argument.

And remember - under Sharia "democracy"; you'll all have a vote, and only one vote, once you've voted for Allah once - thats it.

I know people will say that its an unfounded concern peddled by right wing fanatics that Islam will invade and undermine western society until the globe is Islamic; but thats exactly what traditional conservative Islam wants - they are carrying out the will of Allah after all - and what would result from this in another 100? 200 years? Non-islamic "westerners" being an underclass in their "own" country. If you don't believe this is a reality - you only have to look at the plight of many non-islamic arab communities in the Middle East.

The VAST majority of MUSLIMS don't agree or abide by Sharia law, so your hypothesis can't be right

Long term it is inevitable and also desirable IMO. British Muslims will use democracy to achieve their aims and we should all support that aspiration.

You can look forward to your children's children learning the Qur'an and living lives devoted to the teaching of the Prophet.

Muslims were calling for Sharia Law in Canada, and the government told them that there was already one law in place, Canadian Law, and that this would remain the only law in place, and if you didn't wish to accept this law, perhaps you should consider moving to a country whose laws match your views and beliefs.

Perhaps things have got out of hand but Islam or Sharia isn't the answer, the answer is a powerful and decisive justice system, no f*ckin about, you act a **** you do some HARD time, no namby pambying, no decent meals, no telly but no rocks either, you f*ck up you get a month of absolute f*ckin abject misery, pain and loss of dignity, not twelve months of cushy touchy feely bollocks, alternatively you go to Iraq or somewhere clearing mines.

That said, them crazy Muslims don't get it all wrong, apart from the religion bit I suppose but I think they keep the plebs in order pretty well, stoning a raped woman is a little harsh though.

And what makes you think that you need 50% of the population to win an election? You only need a well organised minority to win an election.... and I wonder what would happen if the word went out to all the mosques that you should do your duty and vote for the Islam party? hmmm I can see a well organised minority forming a lot sooner than people would like to think!
