Any tomtom experts,

im leaving it on charge overnight incase its flat, and then will try and reset it in the morning,

Trading Standards

I've also heard that the bag can be used. The shop will know the time/date they sold a certain unit after all.

Have you done the standard re-set?

To reset your TomTom device, do the following:
  1. Charge your device.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours. Make sure the charging light on your device is on (except RIDER which has no charging light).
  2. Remove the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, remove it.
  3. Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. Look in here for where to find the reset button.
  4. Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.
  5. Insert the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.
If you have & it still doesn't work then do this :-

TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems - Support home - When I insert my memory card into my TomTom device a red cross is shown on the screen.

I had this and putting a new memory card with all the software from the one provided solved the problem. A bit extreme but it worked.
