Default Toothache

I need cheering up

Woke up last night with really bad toothache. Got up this morning and the right side of my face is swollen.

So I ring up my dentist and the Receptionist said come straight over. Thought I was going to see the dentist but she just gave me a prescription for Amoxicillin.

Anyway I'm in more pain than earlier and my glands are really hurting now so please try and cheer me up as no matter how many painkillers I take I'm still in pain.

They won't do anything until the swelling has subsided and the infection quelled. The antibiotics will kill the infection but you MUST complete the course.

Its one of my wisdom teeth I can't afford to lose that.

How long do Antibotics take to work? I got them at 11 am and have had 6 so far. They are Amoxicillin 250mg. So far I would say its getting worse rather than better.

I will have a seach on the NHS thing.

Brainy boy

Well they need to get a move on as I can't take much more of this.

Need drink but told not too with these tablets, so I can't even have a bottle of Whisky to help.

Happy Valentines day

My wife can total sympathise with you. She has been having problems since christmas. Left it for ages and then finally went to dentist to be told she had an absese and given pain killers - then booked in for tooth to be removed only to be informed that her wisdom tooth had come up wrong pushing the other tooth to go at an angle which ment the roots of the offending tooth (which are long then usual) where now under the wisdom tooth!!!

She is now booked into the specialist clinic for end of march to be sedated whilst she has tooth taken out and stitches put in gum - she will need at least 2 day recovery if not more and has a list of things she will not be able to do in that time!

You should have some diclofenac too, they are good for pain but not so good for for your digestive system. Oral issues are very discomforting and sometimes you just have to grin and bear it.

That sounds par for the course. Dental issues in adulthood are far from straightforward. Your normal dentist will not be able to carry out the procedure and it's a hospital job. Sedation, cutting and so on.

Try gargling with salt/water solution. Salt has a lot of anti-bacterial properties.

I found that when I had an exposed nerve (and THAT was agony on a biblical scale) a mouthful of REALLY cold water numbed the pain for a short while.

The only problem was that I had to wait 6 hours for the Dentist and went to the bog God only knows how many times as I drank so damn much.

I swear I have never been so glad to see a needle in my life!

I know EXACTLY how bad that feels I drank so much water that when I finally got to the dentist I had to keep getting up to go to the loo during the treatment

I was soooooo glad to finally get the injections in and to feel nothing but numbness. I have NEVER been in so much pain in my life

I once endured the throbbing agony of a severe abscess which was only relieved by the dentist releasing the pressure by cutting my gums open with a scalpel, sans anaesthetic. That did 'sting' a bit from what I remember. Almost as much as the 700 quid bill for emergency 'treatment'.

Hope you fare better!

I once had a tooth removed which had an abcess under it. I did explain to the muppet dentist that he had in fact injected the abcess with the anaesthetic and i could still feel everything.

So he injected again - and again injected the abcess....

He pulled. I pulled back. The nurse grabbed hold. It all got a bit fraught at that point.

She's physically holding me down to the chair. I'm 'explaining'... loudly but not clearly ('cos I had this idiot dentist head first in me gob) that I was feeling some discomfort and explaining that his parents probably didn't know each other and at that point in time he was engaged in coital action.

When he pulled the ****** out (and please note that this was with NO anaestethic) I screamed loud enough to deafen people in the next county and I REALLY sounded like a stuck pig.

When I walked out - clutching my poor abused jaw and almost reduced to tears there were two young lads sat waiting to go in... all they saw was this 6' tall bloke walking out in a hell of state after screaming abuse at every dentist, screaming at the nurse to get the f*ck off, and generally... screaming

You could physically see the colour drain from their face... poor sods....

I had mine out a while back now, and it was the student dentist who did the work, at the standard practice

Gum was sliced open and then pliers, screwdrivers and other sorts of implements for 45 minutes continuous work till all the wisdom tooth was out (it kept breaking and wouldnt come out in one go) then 10 stictches and drove back home

I was fine until the anaesthetic wore off and it started bleeding a lot

I was back in work the next day and ate a full Warburtons toastie loaf with 2 cup o soup I was that hungry lol
