Default Airline Discounts

Trying to get out to Hong Kong to see my brother-in-law in April and wondered how to achieve the best discounts for flights.

Someone told me that most airlines offer their staff 'friends and family' rates, which is often circa 50% of the cost. Is this true, and if so, does anyone have any friends which work for airlines who might want to be my friend?

I'm working off the basis that if you don't ask, you don't get!!!

Cheers

I heard the family discounts were 10%, but you got standby tickets, so no guarantee you'd fly on that day (or more importantly, no guarantee you'd get back in time to start work as promised - this caused a stink when someone was stuck for 4 days extra...)

£109 each way turns to £376 return when you add the taxes and charges!

Still a good price though, I work for BA and the cheapest I can get you there and back is £393.40

Thanks for comments everyone - turns out the nephew of the one of the women I work with works for Virgin and he's just got me "mates rates" and saved me circa £500 from their website prices.

I did look at Oasis (they fly direct from Gatwick which would have been nice) but reviews all over the net say they are terrible with kids so I thought I'd avoid them - they're Hong Kong's easyjet effectively.

Surprised he didn't tell you not to blab about it. Airlines get pretty p*ssed off with this kind of thing.
