She added: "I'd like a written apology from the restaurant and I'd also like some compensation.

Why is it everybody expects compensation - apology should do it, TBH would you go back again, think not!

Chef's special sauce all round if you did!

Most likely it was a special kitchen message for the chef usually they don't show up on the customer copy but someone must have pressed the wrong button.

Bwahahaha, if I had to deal with a party of 10 girls from Walsall, I'd probably be wanting to hurl abuse at someone by the end of the night.

Unlucky that it ended up on the receipt, but look at them jumping on the "OMG! Claim! Claim!" bandwagon, because of course you never hear words like that uttered on the streets of Walsall, oh my poor innocent eyes. Yeah right, go and suck on a dick, and stop moaning.

If I'd gotten that receipt I'd just laugh and probably keep hold of it to show to my mates later.

Yeah, if they come in for their free meal, the receipt should say.

Suck my dick f**k face £-50.00

I think that's the going rate??

Don't think I'd take the restaurant up on a free meal though - goodness only knows what extras might make it into the meal and not show on the receipt!
All they had to do was to refuse the service charge, pay the bill, leave and chalk it down to experience and never go there again.
Don't see why the compensation is required.

Where there's blame, there's a claim.

I set the lawyers on a seafood restraunt once, no win no fee. As a result I got free oysters with my next meal. That was using Clams direct.

I'd also like some compensation.
If I was the owner, I'd say, in true Ramsey style: "f**k off"

I can't see how that can be some message intended for someone in the kitchen, as far as I know people in close proximity do still speak to each other don't they? Or are we all now only allowed to communicate via some sort of 'texting'. I can't imagine " Suck my dick, ****face" is code for double cheeseburger and chips with extra relish. It is in fact just another example of the lack of respect people have for others in this selfish country. I worked briefly as a waiter probably over 20 years back now and there is a certain irony in the fact that in these modern times where customer care is supposed to be so important, that in fact in a large number of companies it is truly appalling. Restaurants seem to be particularly expert at crap service (with the exception often of ethnic cuisine; Chinese, Indian, Thai etc where the staff are generally not British). I would say this is because this kind of work is now commonly regarded a 'bum job' and the type of person who ends up doing it just doesn't give a ****. Add to this an owner who's primary concern is money, money, money and you're dead in the water. 'Bum job' it might be but I was paid to be a waiter so that's exactly what I did.
Working as a service engineer (here and abroad) eating out is a way of life and the quality of food and the attitude of staff in this country does not compare well with others (the staff in America actually smile). Try making a genuine complaint in many restaurants here and you get treated like an arsehole, do it in America and they often apologise.
I think I'm done for now,
Kevin

No, I think it was intended for the kitchen staff.

I was reading a thread about this same story on another, much larger, forum and there's quite a few people who work in restaurants report doing the same sort of thing regularly, including one guy who got in trouble for ruining the stock control system because he used to add extra pizza toppings to non-pizza orders just so that when you read down the receipt it would spell out rude messages as an acrostic.

I must admit it is plausible.

Especially on restaurants with PDA or electronic til based ordering which send orders to a printer in the kitchens.

Now if the work place has a bit of banter between staff anf if one of the kitchen staff were winding up the waiters, then one maybe inclined to send a "message" through on the order system. But maybe didn't realise it would also show up on the bill.

LOL, American restaurant staff are no different....especially when your back is turned.

Speaking of which, should one dare to go in to a Mc donalds or any other fast food chain in the US (I don't make it a habit ), one is greated by the most miserable, mumbling idiotic staff one could ever wish to encounter. I thought it was bad in the UK!

Its very easy to do, not only with POS solutions, but ATM's as well.

99% of the time, all you need is the correct log on's.

What difference does that make? You earn your tip here whereas US its expected with every meal. If someone here smiles, checks your food is good etc then I always tip even in cheapy restaurants like pizza hut.

Never go back to a restaurant if you complain. I've chefs toss one off into peoples' puddings before now and waitresses line up to gob greenies into the food.

What the girls should have done was refuse to pay the bill, leave a work forwarding address for any claim [not home address] and depart.

I've done this on a few occasions where food and or service is crap. You never hear another thing.

My family have owned restarants for my whole life and I can tell you than in 20 years in the industry I have never known a chef or waitress in a proper non long-chain establishment do anything to a customers food. Any chef pasisonate about what he does would nevver dream of it.
Any one who eats in frankie and benny's etc deserves everything they get.
With regard to food if you eat it and drink it pay for it ,if you don't want to eat it send it back and refuse to pay or ask for another. Leaving with out paying is against the Law.

You are legally within your rights to leave a restuarant without paying for a meal - even if you have eaten 10 courses - if you believe you have ajustifiable reason for complaint providing you give your name and address to the restuarant should they wish to follow it up.

You can only leave with out paying if you state at the time of serving that the food was of poor quality. This is only acceptable if the food was so bad it is considerd a breach of contract. The most you can knock off for more service is 15% as this would be considerd the maximum amount of the food price allocated to service. Walking out without paying at all just because you did not like the service is against the Law.
