Red face scam call from 'UK Accident Group'?

Just had a call from a bloke who had a certain african accent, asking to speak to me or my wife.

So I asked whos calling and he said (in very poor english) he was from UK accident group and wanted to check to see if we had had a car or work related accident in the last year. So I asked why, to which he replied that if I said yes, I could meet with his solicitor and then gp tomorrow morning and claim compensation.

When I asked him for his number he said he couldnt give that out. When pushed for it (as I explained, if he was genuine, and the company was also, then there would be no issue with revealing a customer helpdesk number) he gave me 0800 43 23 21 - tried ringing - no such number.

Obviously highly suspicious and not had a call like this before. This follows a week after receiving several calls from somone whos blocking their number (141 before dialling)

Anyone else had anything similar? Have the nigerian scammers moved onto tel calls?

The dodgy telephone number aside, I've just checked the company name with Companies House and the Ministry of Justice and they are not registered with either.

Not heard of scammers getting involved in this before though?

I just hang up or give them to my 6 year old daughter. Shes not very good on the phone so its like the blind leading the blind.

i'd assumed (and I could be wrong) that the 'meeting the following day with their 'solicitor' would be nothing of the sort and would, if I was stupid enough to take them up on their offer, conclude with me being worse off than when I started.

OR...gathering as much info on me and my family as they possibly could to then attempt some form of ID theft.

The fact that he wouldnt give his number when initially asked, spoke very broken english, said his name was 'Tim Allen' (yeah right!, and my names Sly Stallone), couldnt tell me when I might have had this 'accident' (which I havent) and had a 'solicitor' on standby waiting to meet me 'tomorrow' left me in little doubt this was anything other than bogus.
