Default Pandora - Music Genome Project.... grubby little record companies get their way again

So, just went to use Pandora in order to throw up some suggestions of some new stuff I might like to listen to - as I do every few weeks, and am faced with this:

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.

This was a great site which led to my CD collection expanding in some slightly strange directions; yet the poor, on the verge of bankruptcy record companies get their way again.

Bands should start setting up their own Paypal accounts... I'd much rather give them the full £10 for an album than their record companies to pass 70p on to them.

There.. thats my rant for the day. I know I can use sites to get around this - but its the principle of the matter!

It's been like that for quite some time unfortunately Of course, one could use a proxy server to give you a US based IP address so you can get onto Pandora.

Yup, tried to log on earlier and was greatly disappointed to see this site closed down I found some great bands through this site that I would never have heard off without it

Dave - only those with a US IP address can access it.

Its just another one of those daggers out for Internet Radio.

My understanding was that it is still accessible to those with US based IP addresses. The page you see when you try to access it shows your IP address and does a geo-lookup on it and works out where you are based, and that's how it's blocking it (a lot of sites, ABC for example, do this as well) access to non US types.

I've just used a proxy server (IP 69.217.73.52 port 8080) and accessed the site, albeit slowly and it was still logged into my account, so I'd that works

Living in France, this whole Pandora thing pissed me right off. They are wise to 99.99% of proxy servers and block them too.

first solution....
Go to AnchorFree's Hotspot Shield follow the instructions and run hotspotshield. This allows you to access Pandora as normal. The downside is I find it slows down other net use.

Second solution...
Ditch Pandora and use Last.fm – The Social Music Revolution instead. Pretty much the same thing without the complications.
