clarification on Cat d write off
Just looked at a car, not bad, price was lower than normal,
it was advertised as a cat D total loss.
now assuming i bought the car, what are the implications for me?
obviously i have to declare it to all parties.
from an insurance point of view what happens?
can it be reinsured?
will the premium be higher?
what happens if i,m in an accident? (non fault)
would my payout be lower? or would i stand to loose the car for a trivial knock?
Mart

Not always so - if u can show car was professionally repaired to high standard they will pay out market value - had this discussion with assessor when someone rear ended my beloved 200sx - was cat d @ 18 months old and I bought it smashed and had it repaired professionally.
Resale will always be less than market value as car has history and u should always reveal this when reselling - can make it difficult to sell - I have Cat D scoob for sale now at very, very reasonable price, but no takers so am gonna keep it I think (was repaired professionally at Subaru with genuine parts) again 18 months old and I saved £9000 on list price after I bought it with light front and had repair done - have run it happily for 6 years with no problems - flies through every MOT, etc. Only reason I am selling is cos I currently have 2 scoobs!!! ; )
