Royal Mint = Royal Con
Have you received a mail promo from Royal Mint? Addressed to "All Households in the United Kingdom" so you should have one soon if not already.
On the front it says OFFICIAL NEW COIN ISSUE. So, half interested, I opened it. For just £9.95 you can order a complete set of new shiny coins to celebrate the new design. And they are REAL coins which can be used. Wow.
But hold on. They are not actually new at all - they're just a bunch of the existing design coins with 2008 on. Value £1.00 + 50p + 20p etc. Total £1.88.
But I expect a lot of folk will be conned into this. Come on Royal Mint - this is a bit below the belt

Will they be made for general circulation though?
"Special" coins are never worth more than their face value in the shops, but for collectors they can fetch a nice price.
Not my thing though

Limited Edition of 100,000 sets. Superior standard of minting. So I reckon if you hang onto a set it could be worth £1.89 in about 10 years
