Padding to protect pedestrians - Yahoo! News UK
Padded lamposts so we do not hurt ourselves - you just could not make this stuff up.

padded cells would be of more use....stick the idiots that thought of this inside one.
What's next? padded pavement, padded doors, padded mail boxes, padded buses, cars, trains, roads, steps, rails and anything else we can think of

I know a friend of mine we stepped off a moving bus straight into one. Almost knocked him out cold

i read somewhere once that cars are designed with hitting people in mind, they are designed so that if a car hits a person at 30mph, they will survive which is why on the ads there is a much greater chance of surviving being hit by a car traveling 30mph than 40mph

technically cars are already "padded," we have crumple zones and airbags etc... in fact prob all newer cars are much heavier compared to their older version because of safety regulations........

NCap ratings for hitting pedestrians are generally pretty poor, especially off roaders and pick-ups, it's not a factor in selecting cars for many people.

I can remember , many years ago, parking my car, getting out, going to the pavement, and then walking away backwards thinking "is that too far from the kerb?,,......Is it?..... Naaah, it'll be fine" and then I turned around and hit a lampost face first. I don;t think I have hit my head on something so hard before or since. I saw stars.
I for one, welcome the padding

Perhaps you should be wearing a padded suit and crash helmet when going about your daily business then
My head is certainly thick enough to withstand all but the hardest of lamposts!
