Default LPG enquiry help wanted

I have seen a car im interested in which is lpg but it does not have a certificate for the lpg system how would i go about getting a certificate for the car if i do buy it??

Most likely i will have to get it the system/car checked by a lpg garage and they will check that the system has been fitted correctly etc but will they also give me a certificate???

The car is only regisitered as petrol so i will most likely need the certificate to inform the dvla also.

Does anyone know the procedure or any information about this??

Thanx

Zed

There's an LPG Association which Google will find for you. They should be able to advise. dl

Why bother with LPG. The Government are scrapping the reduced Tax on it.

Well Ken Livingston is definitely dropping the reduced congestion charge for LPG vehicles.

I believe duty was blocked on LPG for however many years, but this expired last year.
I have noticed the price has been creeping up, but dont know if thats due to increased oil costs etc or increased duty rate.

Zed. I was asking Stilover why he said HMG were going to scrap the reduced tax. Not London related.

Note LPG conversions can go wrong in a big way so you should ask if there are any guarantees provided.

=======

They are stopping the red concession for diesel for boat owners in the Autumn but that is hardly relevant

Don't talk to me about pleasure craft diesel degradation, ruddy Europe. We pay top notch for diesel in this country and now Europe is taking away the only perk we had. Why is it Europe seems to impose regulations that are not of benefit to us, never something that causes a cost of living reduction. Or do I have a selective memory.

Would be nice to know if LPG was going to loose its low tax?! Anyone know what the score is?

I don't know what he's on about. Although the original Powershift grants are long gone the Chancellor is commited to maintaining the duty differential between LPG and Diesel/Petrol, so it won't reduce by more than 1ppl per annum. In other words, it should remain at 50% of the price of the other fuels.

What has had an effect is a 55% increase in the ANSI (wholesale) price over the last seven months, hence the price increases you've noticed but you should still achieve around a 35% saving plus a drastic reduction in CO2/NOX/particulate emissions just to keep the tree huggers happy.

Having said all that, remember that HMG is only really interested in taxation as witnessed by the recent announcement that LPG no longer qualifies for exemption from the Kengestion Charge because LPG vehicles have to start up on petrol/diesel - joined up thinking or what?
