Default Brick built BBQ

Hi guys,

I'm going to have my garden over hauled sometime before summer and was thinking about a brick bbq (I already have a gas one)

Thing is I have no idea how to design one ( I won't be building it myself)

Anybody have one? Any ideas especially with pics would be great

Buschbeck Masonry Barbecues (Barbeques, BBQ's) from Patiogear - Patiogear.co.uk - Gas Barbecues, Patioheaters Barbecues, BBQs, Lawn Mowers, Patio Heaters, Garden Furniture & Bottled Gas All From PatioGear

I have a similar one, bought in France for €200, here in the UK, and one at our French house, that cost €150.

You'd need a big-ish van to go over and get one, but ALL the big supermarkets and the DIY sheds over there sell 'em from Easter to Whit.

Relatively easy to build, (I did the one in the garden here entirely alone except for the chimney which was two-man), and painted it with Wickes outdoor masonry paint. It stands on a concrete base, with a semi-circle of slabs in front.

You could attempt a self-build with an item called 'The Bricky'.

used to have one - just build it with loose bricks or paviours and use it for a year to see if you can live with it before you spend money on having one built...

I built one from the "kit" that you can get from Homebase, B&Q etc. The kit contains the grate and grill, and the instructions about how many bricks you need etc.

Was quite pleased with the results, and the builder who lived next door commented that it looked a neat job. Only problem was in the time it took me to build a barbecue, he'd built an extension on his house

Not sure I see the benefit TBH.

I love to barbecue, and we have a really good charcoal BBQ with a suspended fire grate, a lid and a spit for roasting. It's extremely versatile and just lives outside on the patio all year round under a cover; brick ones look nice and 'serious', but are ultimately less versatile - so I'm not sure I see the point.

Less versatile in that you can't move it about, I grant you, but beyond that it's 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other.

if you don;t keep them clean, the brickwork becomes a bit of a mess. i know a few people who build them with loose bricks and then rebuiild them with clean loose bricks after a couple of years rahter than cleaning them
