Convenient that - first of all the Police didnt think it was murder, then were told it was and managed to find the criminal in 5 minutes and arrest him. If only our Police were so efficient.

In no way at all does it stink of 'oh no, the rest of the world think we are completely incompetent, better grab the first bloke we can find and beat an admission out of him'.

Especially when they have their tourist trade to protect. Seems very suspect (no pun).

They looked to be a 'newage traveller' type of family on the news. Must be some kind of a record to go from denying it was murder to arresting someone within about 24 hours!

According to Sky news yesterday, the girl was left with their tourist guide in a bar, while rest of the family went travelling a nearby state. May be they trusted the guide (they might have been to Goa a few times, and known him for a long time), even then it sounds a bit strange to leave the girl with the guide in a strange country.

Gotta say that the mother is very brave to be able to photograh girl's injuries herself (ref:Sky news TV coverage), and I think that she didn't deserve what happened to the girl. Overconfidence in a foreign country can result into disasters sometimes. ATM the mother is there in Goa, fighting for justice. Hope she gets justice. Hope the real bast@rd of a culprit gets done, so does the bleddy Goa police!

I'd like to hope I wasn't leaving my 15 year old daughter in a bar, of all places, with someone I didn't really know.

I went to Goa about 10 years ago, and it seemed very safe there, so maybe they thought they were doing an OK thing. Either that or they were all stoned... It's a right hippy hangout.

Didn't the mother have 6 other children or something?

Allowing a 15 year old out until 5am in GOA?

Did I spot a nice neck tattoo on the girl - at 15 (could be wrong about this - picture 5 in the article)!?

And body piercing - at 15!?

She was clearly a very sexual 15 year old .....

The mother needs hanging alongside the murderer!!

Agreed, but castrate the rapist/murderer before doing so

I think once the journos start to dig dirt on that family they won't have to do more than scratch the surface for some easy pickings.

It's always tragic that a young life has been taken..

but what sort of mother would take her 15 year old daughter abroad for the first time, and then leave her with a tour guide they had known only a short while, whilst her and her boyfriend gallavant to another state with her ? other children? *i've seen reports ranging from 4-7 other kids..

It may sound harsh but isn't that asking for trouble?

By all accounts the girl was seen in a bar, by an Englishman, and told him that she had taken all sorts of drugs - she was later seen by the same man in the bars car park with the barman lying on top of her...

No it's not harsh and yes it is asking for trouble.

On the face of it it seems appalling behaviour by mother who seems old enough to know better. dl

Who shagged the mother in the first place? What a horror.

Agree with others above. The mother is as much to blame as the murderer. fancy leaving you 15 year old daughter with some guy while you bugger off having a nice time.

Serves the mother right. The daughter didn't deserve having such a parent.

I don't understand the media in this country. They seem obsessed by the identity of the alleged perpetrator but seem totally disinterested in asking some pretty basic questions of the mother as to why she left her fifteen year old daughter in the care of someone she barely knew?

Sounds like the McCanns all over again, absentee parenting followed by mass hysteria/wailing about the tragedy that unfolds when children aren't supervised properly.

and that they want to re-examine her body to check her age..

Mrs Leslie and I certainly were not in the least impressed with the mother's sense of responsibility when leaving a daughter of that age alone with a boyfriend in a foreign land, and somehow the piercings of the mother and the girl seem to betray the mother's character.

The girl did not ask to be murdered and raped if indeed that is what happened.

The mother when interviewed today on R5 live said that she had known the chap for 2 months - I am not too sure how anybody could leave a 15 y/o in a foreign country she was not familiar with in the care and custody of a 25 y/o man whom she had known for 8 weeks, seems a poor judgement call and the girl paid the price.

Well then - Goan Police, all sorts of accusations flying about. Having spent time with a few Goans in Dubai they seem to have little regard for the police and the law, anybody can be bribed if you have the cash or are from the right cast. Bassish(sp) i think they call the bribes/corrupution.

I read somewhere that she in fact has nine children, and going by the pictures of the family 'home' in todays paper, their family life is less than ideal

Apparently the mother has one consolation ' at least she has some photos of Scarlet having a nice time...'

She would have no need for 'consolations' if she had acted as a responsible parent..n

The mother should be charged with both Fraud and child neglect.

Allowing your 15 year old daughter out till 5am is neglect.
