Nasty - good luck with your insurance co.

I came back from holiday shortly after we moved into the current place to find water on the kitchen floor and a big bulge in the ceiling - and then remembered that the last thing I did before we went away was nail something to the bathroom wall...

(Turned out to be a faulty joint elsewhere in the system - not my fault at all - but I still had that sinking feeling in my stomach for a while!)

Good luck with the insurance.

We had a similar problem a while back, a lot less serious though. A smallish leak damaged the kitchen ceiling. They only patched the effected area and didn't do a very good job at that. Ended up they had to come back an reskim the area again. Would have probably been easier and possibly cheaper to do the whole ceiling in the first place especially considering it's only a small room.

So.................you're sure it IS a leak then, and not her blister popped?

Sorry, hope you and she get sorted soon. Alcazar

Thats being married to you, give her some more of the sedatives.

Bad luck on the cistern, dont forget to ensure any electrical items due for replacement are placed in the affected room, when my grandads pipe went the insurace co must have wondered why he had three tellies in the same room.

Jackos Mate: My mum went on holiday last year to come back to the whole house flooded due to a broken cistern. Dining room ceiling came through so did kitchen... all ruined!!

The outcome was full new granite kitchen (21k) (was not granite before) all new furniture (and it wasn't cheap to start - 5k dining room table), new oak floors throughout. The full works!

She had to move out for 6 months while they did the work, the insurance paid for a rented barn conversion and penthouse apartment for part of the time.

well leak has been fixed by the plummer from the mother in laws shop(hairdresser).water has dried up on the sufraces.

but its underneath the lino and the carpet in the extension is soaking, and has pools of water round it when you walk,
the wall paper is bubbled of the kitchen wall. and the ceilings got three or four holes in it and has bowed.

Well the insurance co sent a fimr called "munters" with a dehumidifier and a fan to dry the house out it will be on for two weeks,
allied carpets have rang to see about new flooring, just waiting for the asssessor and the builders now, this guy is on about the lintel being knackered so we will have to see. i cant fault them so far but as its early days we will have to see.
the de humidifier had half a cup of water in it and was only on for 20 mins
before i left.
