15mph speed limit to force people out of cars.
Latest New Labour / New Britain initiative. The loopy nutcase Caroline Flint's turn this time (the one that looks like a goth vampire).
Yes, now it's time to introduce the:
15mph speed limit to force people out of cars.
15mph speed limit to force people out of cars - Telegraph
"These developments will be exemplars for the rest of the world, not just the rest of the country. It's critical that we get it right - and I make no apology for setting the bar as high as possible."
You couldn't make it up - but they're serious!!

Yet more and more lower limits, although more likely to be 20mph as 15mph isn't a legally imposeable speed limit. Love the bit about cutting pollution, absolute nonsense , emissions actually increase as such low speeds as the speed isn't high enough to sustain a high gear.

This happens already in some American towns doesn't it? Could work in a new town assuming that the town was designed right (houses close to town centre, cycle paths, good public transport etc) however what about visitors? If they tried to roll it out nationally though

15mph limits have nothing whatsoever to do with 'green living' as we all know. The exact opposite in fact.

Well thought through as always by the government. Ok so you build a new "eco-town" for people to live. Great. Did they think that all these people will need to work for a living which means they'll have to . . . travel!! These eejits in the governement live in cloud cookoo land

Stick all the eco-types in their own towns and let the rest of us get on with life normally. Fast forward 10 years when they discover that there's a higher incidence of [insert disease here], which they previously linked to pollution/global warming/whale spunk, within the eco-towns
