What do you pay babysitters?

Many babysitters have clubbed together here to charge £7.50 an hour. If it was a proper full time job I wouldnt mind, but if it's a sideline for pocket money...?
One from our nippers nursery came by recently together with her kid, watched telly for a few hours, requested we were back for 9 o clock (as she was going out too) and took over £50 off me! It's great to have someone they know and you trust, and not have to blag a favour, but it does cost a bit!
We are using mates & family more now, as I think its all a bit steep and have started moaning, but would be interested to know if it is actually about the 'going rate' nationally.

I either use family or a family friend who is a qualified 'baby lookerafterer' and I give her £6.00 which is the same rate she gets at work in the daytime.
At the end of the day I expect to pay a professional fee for a profesional serice.

I used to childmind during the day and 'baby sit' at night .. when I was 17.. they used to pay me around £7 an hour for the childminding, and £25 a night for around 3-4 hours babysitting..plus use of internet, phone etc..and that was about 10 years ago

I used to pay £5 an hour about 16 years ago in London. That changed to £3.50p an hour, when we moved to North Wales. Now, my kids are teenagers, and they don't need babysitting. But the going rate here in N. Wales for babysitting is £6/hour by a registered childminder.
