The iphone will only (as far as I can tell) pair with a headset.

I don't think the bluetooth system in the iPhone supports data transfer...I'll check with my mate, he works for apple tech support.

Yep, thought so, just confirmed it. The Apple iPhone's Bluetooth only supports Hands free devices, not data transfer.

Thanks....just brilliant, so when my old phone attempts to gain access, the iphone recognises this and asks for the pin which does not exist then for the hell of it ??????

The iPhone will only recognise hands free devices as they generally don't need a pin number to connect. The Bluetooth software will only do this in the iPhone. Even if you could pair them up you couldn't send any data over the link as the iPhone can't physically do it.

Looks like you might have long night ahead of you.

My mates says to put all your contacts on your PC/Mac and then sync with the phone. Probably best way as then you have a back up in case anything happens.

This must be a problem for everyone then when they buy an iphone.

There must be an easy way of transfering my sim contacts onto the pc in a format which will sync with the iphone.

In a word...no there isn't.

It was only a few years ago that you had to enter them manually to which ever phone you bought, are people that out of touch and lazy that even this seems like a difficult task?!

I had a Nokia N80 and upgraded to a Nokia N95 and I had to still enter them manually as the software that came with the phones was different and wasn't compatible.

Ok, now he says there IS a simple way for you he's messing me about. OK here is his instructions...

u need to transfer/sync/copy your contacts to the old phone software he has on PC or to either outlook 2003 or 2007 or to microsoft windows contacts app which is part of outlook

once they are then on PC, open itunes goto Info tab and select the app from which to sync the contacts to iphone

on PC had to be either Outlook 2003/2007 or windows contacts from Express

on vista you can only use Outlook and not windows contacts
Sorry about the messing about....

Hmm, not sure on that, I don't have any experience with vista. At least you got it sorted.
