Angry so this is how it is!!

a double decker bus pulls out into my car at traffic lights on Wednesday in Lambeth London. it was 5.30pm. the bus didn't stop. i did. the CID saw me 5 minutes later, unconnected and did a full vehicle check on me and told me to report the accident to the MET Police asap. they also informed me that there was a camera at the lights. the damage to my car is not good the whole of one side is foofed. you couldnt make it up!!

my car is pretty hard to miss!

i spent the whole day trying to report the incident over the phone but was told to report it in person at my local one then the incident could be dealt with by the big boys.

to cut a long story short i cannot get anyone to do anything with the CCTV. i have the exact location and time, what i don't have is the bus number, which would, i assume be visible from the film. as i am unable to identify the bus nothing will be done

a red double decker bus pulls out into my car and doesn't stop or report the incident and there is nothing i can do?

You need a court order to release the CCTV footage. Got money?

Insurnace company.. Mine went after a driver in a similar situation. Once they had cctv footage, they handed it over to the police as he had commited a crime (failure to stop).

They still need a court order for the footage. The insurabce company applies for it. Unfortunately, us plebs, have no rights to CCTV footage, esp when organisations like London Transport are involved. You can thank Ken (Labour) for that!

Probably why it was hit in the first place Sara, try buying a car thats easier to miss and you should be ok

On a serious note, at least if you get something out of this it'll repair the damage that was caused mysteriously a few weeks back

Good luck

The data protection act means you can have access to CCTV if you pay a £10 admin fee. Could take a while for it to come back though.

Squares, you must be the most accident prone person here. Wasn´t it possible to chase after the bus in your metallic banana and flag it down?

Hope it all works out.

When was this? They should keep for 28 days, if you get your request in before this, it should be saveable! Hopefully it's digital, so will be fairly easy to get to on the hard disk.

Ring the council in the area you were in at the time? They will have their own CCTV control rooms at secret locations...

I suppose the other tack to try is contact the police again and try to report the accident, when they give you the fob off, ask how could you when they failed to stop after an accident which is a crime in itself.

If they don't log it and help report them to the police complaints authority.

Seeing the damage in the other thread you posted you got off lightly ! My wife got her MGF squashed by a bus that decided to change lane whithout looking when it was alongside her, and forced her into a parked Landrover.

Needed both front wings, bonnet, passenger door, front bumper, wheel, various suspension parts and one back wing.

When that happened the driver did stop, but then tried to drive off as he was in a hurry. Luckily the landrover owner turned up and called the police, and there happened to be a bike cop a couple of streets away who came over.

Despite having CCTV at the scene, CCTV on the bus, a bus full of witnesses, the statement from the bike cop and my wifes statement, the bus company still wouldnt admit liability until right at the last minute. They seem to not admit anything as a matter of course and just mess your insurance company around.

In the end they did admit it all, and the car got fixed so it didnt cost us anything ( the landrover just had a small scratch on the huge girder like metal bumper on the front, so the owner wasnt bothered ).

Check bus routes. see how many routes come from that road and turn in that direction.

Find out what buses were going along that route around that time, pretty sure you should be able to narrow it down to a few buses that run that particular route.

The bus must be traceable. I imagine if it had hit a police car they'd have found out what bus/driver it was soon enough!

Have you rung the bus company to see which buses use that route and which ones would have been around there at that time? I imagine there is some yellow paint on the guilty bus.

You were outdragged by a bus? I wouldn't be admitting that on a car forum

Correct. My Dad had the same problem, bus hit him and drove off. Police did driver of bus for 'Failure to stop at scene of accident'.

To view ANY CCTV, you just need to make a written letter wishing to view the footage or for a copy to the operator of the CCTV. You do not need to pay anything. Under law, you are entitled to view it.

P.S. Bus companies and drivers are w*nkers and never admit liability!

i am now checking bus company's that use Durham Street in Lambeth. its a mammoth job!

i am also going to call the Met again and report a failure to stop. i have been given no crime or URN reference numbers so i will start from the beginning, hopefully when i tell them its been reported at my local one they may do something.....fingers crossed...

I don't doubt it, but don't insurance companies require that we never admit to anything at the scene of an accident?

Sorry to hear about it Sara, really bad when they do that to you and don't stop. It is difficult tp get a number when all that is happening too. Hope you can shame the plod or your insurance can get the cctv in time to get the details.
