Off to New York this year. Been a few years since I've been there. Where should I stay. Looking for 4+ start type hotels?
Last time I was there, the W Hotel had opened and was THE place to stay. When I go to TripAdvisor now it gets distinctly average ratings. Ploughed through a number of web review sites, but not sure who to believe.

We stayed at the San Carlos on E 50th St this time last year which is a 5*.
It was my 5th time in the City and certainly the best hotel by far

Ali and I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria last time we were in NYC. Booked a suite. To be honest - It was a bit tired. Maybe the Waldorf Towers is a bit more up to date?
Don't get me wrong - it is a fantastic hotel and the food (especially breakfast - is second to none) I just found one of the chandaliers in our sitting room unpolished and had some bits missing.

We paid £150 a night for a suite at the waldorf so that would be £1050 fo a week.
We have also stayed at an Holiday Inn Express near 5th Ave which was nearer £50 a night - £350 for a week.
TBH - The Holiday Inn was very well positioned for all the action - It had paper plates / plastic cups though.
Wherever you stay hotel wise you should definately try out
THE HOG PIT - hogpit.com
and
McSorley's Old Ale House
First one has great ribs / great pool table / great beer and great juke box.
Second has super great beer.
Would advise McSorley first then the Hog pit

I'm typing this from the Iroquois on W44th between 5th and 6th. very nice and certainly more spacious than previous places I've stayed.
Plus there's a fantastic Denny's type restaurant just on the right that does great eggs, sausage & pancakes

We stayed in the Bryant Park Hotel in December, views of Bryant Park and central to everything you could need. It was superb and has a popular trendy nightclub in the basement called the "Cellar Bar" which seems to be the place to be.
