I thought the MOD explained the situation very well personally, how the hell else do the press expect pilots to learn to land these things safely in tight situations.
Do they think they just go straight to Afghanistan and Iraq and learn how to do it whilst under fire![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
If had that sort of land in that area I'd gladly offer it to them for the training purposes, as the Middletons did![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
And I'd definitely take the RAF's opinion of whether Prince William is ready to train to fly a Chinook over that of an 'expert' who's so knowledgeable that the only place he can get quoted is the News of the ******* World

I heard he had only been flying from January.
Personally I don't have a problem with it, I assume there was a more experienced pilot with them, I am surprised that the 2nd and 3rd in line to the throne would be flying in the same plane if it was just prince William flying it.
It make me wonder whether the objections are just jealousy ?

If you had a Chinook handy, wouldn't you try it
Better than turning up in a tatty stretch limo with a bunch of daffs

What's the fuss? It's not like any other RAF pilot has stretched the boundaries before. I'm sure Les has several stories that would back that up. Stop being the puppets of the NOTW you sad tw@ts

..I've know people *ahem* to get a helicopter from Basrah Airport to Basrah Palace just to go on the pop.. sorry.. I mean conduct liaison. ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Probably rates as the worlds most expensive and potentially dangerous Taxi..
I don't really see a problem with it for a number of reasons - not apart from the fact that he is 2nd in line to the throne and its his Grandmas helicopter. The thing that bugs me more than that is that he has a Jubilee medal.. even if it is ugly, a different size to all your other medals, and looks like a chocolate coin.

WHAT !!! A helicopter landed, thats disgusting !!
lol
Well done that man. I know someone who when training in Tornado's just before Gulf 1 (I think it was Tornado's) would deviate from flight plan by "a few miles" to fly over his mums, signalling he would be home in a couple of hours..... And that was NOT his mum's or nan's aircraft. He didnt get told off either.
Well done I say lol.

Lets be honest - who WOULDN'T if we could - much better way to impress your gf's parents than turning up in a flash car. Also, given how posh his gf is, I doubt he was landing it in the back garden of a 2 up 2 down terrace. More like landing on hsi gf's parents 'estate' rather than garden.
Lots of pilots do stuff like this, when we lived really close to the base pilots would often fly low over their houses so their kids could see them.

I like Will's and Harry to be honest if thats what they want to do let 'em as they are good "real" men unlike there father and grandfather imo.
I can honestly say i would be proud to have Harry as the King of the country I love.

why? you're money would have been spend whether or not he did this or not?
Give the guy a break he's gonna be King and hopefully he'll get to serve for his country out in afgan or iraq or whatever America decide we need to blow up next and he'll beable to save the lives of fellow countrymen using the training he got by playin about in his helicopter back home!

Happens more often than you think Pete.
I know of at least one Navy Lynx that went on a "disbursed hide training sortie" and the flight crew basically spent the weekend at the pilot's mum & dad's country house.
They did erect the scrim netting over the Lynx and kept a listening watch over the radio as required though - very concientious I thought!![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I love the selective money wasting choices some make though.
I dunno, whats happening with the armed forces eh, maybe write a letter to Flash eh Pete, get him to launch an enquiry.
Probably cost easily as much as 3 coffee tables, a toaster, a coffee maker and a couple of garden makeovers for some of the MP's eh

It is true that part of military helicopter training is to land in fields off base as part of operational training. The fact that he only touched down for well under a minute indicates that it was for training purposes. It really is of no particular concern that it was in his girlfriend's parents' land. If he got a kick out of that-good luck to him! I'd have stopped for a cuppa myself!![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
When I was getting married in Wales, some of my squadron mates landed at a local RAF base so that they could represent my Squadron at the wedding. They had to come from Germany. That was fine and the whole affair was very enjoyable. The point is though, they did a formal training flight out and back in to Germany and it cost no extra to land at the Welsh RAF airfield to refuel as to land back in Germany and do that. That should kill any further criticism of him landing in the IOW with his brother as a passenger to attend a stag party as well. He got the necessary experience of landing at a civilian airfield and for the record, It is acceptable to carry a relative as a passenger on a training flight, I have taken Mrs Leslie flying with me in the past, and in any case Harry is a serving officer and is also entitled in that respect.

And, during his service career, their Old Man was (still is?) checked out on Harriers, Phantoms, Vulcans and Spitfires, as well as several helicopters, and he owns a sizeable collection of Aston Martins and Jaguars. Sounds real man enough to me

BTW, the chances of Harry actually becoming King are pretty slim, unless William accidentally bins one of his Gran's fleet of course

Shocking though, I mean being in the armed forces and all that, he is gonna be getting a tattoo next, how disgusting!
Just out of interest, if there is objection to him landing on his girlfriends parents property, is there any objection to him landing on any of nanny's property?

As for Harry becoming King, i meant William, i just couldnt be bothered correcting it. Although i would actually prefer Harry as he does seem a bit more "normal"
