Default Oris Watches

Anyone got one? What do you think of them? Any good?

Saw in F1 Racing magazine the new "TT3 Formula Gold Limited Edition". Just phoned up my local stockist. £7350 Bit out of my price range, but....

I quite like the "TT3 Chronograph secong time zone" at a more reasonable £1800.

What are people opinions of Oris watches.

Currently wearing a Brietling Navitimer World. Just wanting another watch to wear when I don't want to take my Brietling to certain places.

I recently bought a Tag Heuer Carrera Automatic. Managed to get the Juan Manuel Fangio Limited Edition version as well. Cost me £1895 from beaverbrooks.co.uk. Well smart, I'm very happy with it. The Ltd Ed version is no longer available but the standard edition is. Could consider that?

Not to keen on Tag's TBH. I looked at the one that Lewis Hamilton wears, but they just seem like a big chunk of metal, and not much else. MHO of course.

Have looked at Oris watches for a while now. Just wanting to know if anyone has.had one and what they thought. Overpriced/reliable/non-reliable/robust etc etc

Fair enough mate, would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.

But you have not done me any favours in showing me the Oris range! I feel a purchase coming in the near future. You can never have enough watches if you ask me!

Very nice. Very nice indeed.

This is the one I'm thinking about getting. Going down to Jewelers on Thursday to have a look. Think I'll probably buy it.

I'd get a brain scan while you're there if you're thinking of spending £7,000 on a watch!

I'm not. Read my post again. I said it was out of my price range. The one picture above is £1800.

I'm a skinflint, so I just got one of these instead:

But I've got one of these on order too:

And I've still got lots of money left over, to, er, spend on something else...

Before you spend 1800 quid on that Oris have a look at the other CW ones: Christopher Ward Watches | Swiss movement mens and womens watches
unless of course it needs to have a 'name' attached....

(Not associated with CW, I just like the quality/price ratio !)

I was in a jewellers a couple of months ago looking at various brands of watches up to £2000 in price and during my conversation with the jeweller i asked which in his opinion were the best and he said Oris, the reason being they were better made/built than the others.

I have an Oris Big Crown and it has been faultless for over 5 years, and yet never serviced and in daily use. I got mine with a friends staff discount for £295 when they were supposed to be more like £400. I also have a Maurice Lacroix, but noticed recently that their £400 watches are now all quartz, with mechanicals starting at £800ish. My partner also has a 44mm XXL in daily use which she loves.

Mine...

40mm face

The wifes....

44mm face

I really love vintage looking watches, but do need to look at getting something more modern. I have been fancying a Tag recently, but always end up looking at classic Omega's

They are ok'ish watches but nowhere in the same league as Tags, Brietlings or Omegas!
Just cause they are sponsoring an F1 team they seem to have grand ambitions with their pricing all of a sudden!!!!!
They are a decent £200-400 price range watch but nothing more.

Same argument that crops up in every watch related thread on SN.

If you don't understand it, you never will and there's nothing I can say that will change your mind as your values are different to mine, and I'm not going to try.

Yep, I spotted the ....

yes but you wont have to leave your watch at home, you can take it with you.

seriously though I have a Rolex and an Omega Seamaster but I also have a casio, if I was going some where I didnt want to take either then I'd wear the casio, I mountain bike so the casio comes in handy, wouldnt want to risk damaging either of the other two. If you didnt want to take your Breitling some where then I'd guess you wouldnt want to take an expensive Oris (they are quite nice watches) either. Perhaps the thing to do is not go places yo couldnt wear a nice watch?

But wearing a 400 pound Oris will? Where are these birds that look at watches before agreeing to a ****?

You meet a lass in a bar, you get chatting, all is going well. She asks if you have the time. You say yes, pull back your sleave to reveal a childs £10 Black casio watch. You ain't going home with her that night.

She'll sumise that:-
You are a cheap skate therefore would not be able to provide for her.
You still live at home with mummy and Daddy.
You have a brown mack.
You are a geek who spends most nights chatting to other geeks on MSN Messenger.

Women look at material things when eyeing up a potential partner. Clothers, shoes etc. Wearing a childs watch will not go down well. Neither will she.

They are not like us men. T1ts? Yes. Fanny? Yes. Good enough

What does a Subaru do that a Tata Nano or Perodua Nippa cannot ? They both still propel you and maybe some passengers and luggage from one place to another without you getting wet ?

What do Calvin Klein underclackers do that Poundland ones do not ?

What does a fillet mignon with morrelle mushrooms and a tarragon sauce do that a packet of Micro-Chips doesn't ?

What would Cameron Diaz be able to do in bed that Kathy Burke wouldn't ? (cue some classic answer )

Sometimes we pay more for more function, more style, more features, more value or whatever, but occasionally we pay more just because we want to. It's called desire and brings some satisfaction, and we all desire and value different things ! I'm sure you have something in your life which could have been acquired cheaper but for your own reasons chose the more expensive option

I agree with some other cynics on here, I just don't get it but then I don't even wear a watch. However different people have their thing and the best of luck to them if that floats their boat, for me biggest waste of cash going.

Obvious bling can sometimes be people trying to make up for something though .............

While not for one second believing that an Oris watch (although they are exceptional watches for the price) fits into this category, some watches are a fine investment.
I own several pieces that have doubled and even trippled in value since I bought them. In fact they've easily outperformed some more conventional investments.

Re: Bling, does anyone really even notice what people are wearing on their wrist. I love watches but don't go around looking at other people's timepieces unless I need to know what time it is.

Save you money in the long run. I can bet anyone who spends £1000 ish + on a watch will probably still have it in say 20 years time. The casio would be in the bin before the weeks out. Ive had my Tag for 8 years now and had it serviced once costing £100. Before I bought it I was buying £70 watches once a year before they got broke. Well worthwhile investing IMO and would do so again

Less exotic but nevertheless a good buy for me, in the 90's I bought a 60's vintage Rolex Submariner for the best part of a grand. A decade later it's worth in excess of 6.
