Default Which are best quality - Homebase or wickes kitchens?

As heading which out of homebase or wickes are the best quality for kitchens?

Or have you another choice out of same sort of budget that a normal DIY shop would keep to.

I have a preferance for solid oak shaker style units btw

Cast your votes please.

Wickes whole raison d'etre in this department is to offer something AT LEAST as good as the competition, but at a lower price.

It's the same with their own-brand tools.

used wickes before, but not homebase...
also used symphony, howdens, johnsons, moores, nicholas anthony and a local company called ikas. out of all the above i've sent repeat business to symphony and ikas. the symphony product was ok and their range was ok too, but i didn;t rate their after sales. ikas were another matter though

all of the above are trade suppliers btw, but if you're anywhere near essex (give or take 90mins or so by car), i would suggest you contact lee at ikas (google them). costs nothing to get a quote of course, so you can compare prices/products

Wickes are the best of the DIY bunch by a country mile
Their carcases are made (in the UK) from decent quality boards, they use proper blum drawer and door fixings, rather than the cheap chinese made sh!te that falls apart after six months, and their service is excellent, if there's an error in the delivery they'll sort it out within a couple of days, some of the others (B&Q and MFI spring to mind) take months just to accept the error might be theirs

Howdens carcases are OK but their fixtures and fittings are the crappest of the crap Plus the first thing you think when you see a Howdens kitchen in someones house is 'Rented'

cant say ive used wickes for a kitchen, but when it came to gutting out our bathroom and starting a fresh, me and nat tried a couple of places. wickes had the ideal cheapish decent quality suite for around 200 nicker.

idea was a simple white bathroom suite with some decorative tiles from elsewhere. delivery and attitude was spot on, along with price. homebase seem a little less knowledgable and more pricey for the same items. guys at wickes know their stuff more in depth too. more experienced merchant over fancy bling shop.

Looks like wickes so far-out of interest does anyone know what distance you should leave either side of a hob-as in from a wall or a door?

I don't think there's a legal minimum requirement OPM(?), but for safety's sake I always leave at least 500mm from door openings, and more if possible.
The hob's installation instructions will tell you the minimum distance from a wall.

Depends what hob you have, if it's ceramic/induction then it's fine next to a wall but if your having gas then i wouldnt recommend it

no its an electric hob i would be having-reason i ask is this-where i thought of having it both homebase and mfi said it couldnt go as the gap is 1000mm and they both said u need a min of 300 mm either side of it so therefore a 600 mm wide hob/oven wouldnt fit, whereas wickes put hob/oven there and didnt mention anything-so just wondering who is right?

If it's electric then it can go next to a wall, we've just designed one this way
