I used to like Iron Maiden many years ago, but as i got to my late teens i went into dance music overdrive, going all around the country every weekend to various clubs (sundissential was my fave), but nowadays i'm more into the british indie scene and havn't looked back, still love grown up dance music, but i found an old tape of iron maiden the other day, and as my scooby has a tape deck (i knew it'd come in handy one day) i gave it a blast and it took me back , so i bought the old live after death album, and **** me it's amazing loving maiden again, "Up The Irons" .

Bruce Dickinson told a story recently about his day job of an airline pilot flying to budget airports in Europe...
The passengers were all getting off the plane and walking to the nearby terminal building. Bruce and co-pilot were also walking off the plane when a guy in an Iron Maiden T-shirt approaches him. Bruce starts searching for a pen to sign an autograph when the guy asks him, "Where do I get my transfer to my next flight?" totally failing to recognise him.
Bruce was apparently a little deflated by this, and keeps getting ribbed about it by his co-pilot to this day....

Absolutely loved them when I was at school and still have all their albums, singles, cassettes. Then went to see them on their last tour at the SECC in Glasgow and was gutted that they only played their new stuff and no Number of The Beast,Run to the Hills etc.The most disappointing concert I have ever been at - there was some really smart tee shirts for sale though.

I like any of their early stuff The Number Of The Beast being the best other good ones are Killers and Iron Maiden. The later stuff had some good singles but the rest of the albums sounded like the same song sung over and over again.

Fave album is Fear of the Dark.
And I have a preproduction album cover print of No Prayer for the Dying. An ex's dad worked for the printing company and used it as a sample to show what they could do....
Now if I could onlky get it signed.
Think I'm missing 3 albums and 8 centenery special editions.

Agreed with some of the above comments, their earlier material was definitely the best - Piece of Mind, Seventh Son, Number of the Beast and Somewhere in Time are my faves. At least they've never embarrassed themselves like Metallica did with St Anger, though

This takes me back. Seen them at the NEC Birmingham back in 1990, great stuff. One of the best albums has to be Powerslave & the track 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'
Just can't stop playing Number of the Beast on Guitar Hero 3 on the Xbox 360 after a few beers.

I thought they went downhill when Dickinson left. Best albums have to be Killers and Number of the Beast, Hallowed be thy Name is one of my favourites. Better get the Black Sabbath out too.

Funny you should raise this Boosh. I too was an Iron Maiden fan and it was their influence and my incessant playing of their albums that led to my brother learning to play guitar. I too then became a raver and still love my trance, hardcore and old school...
That said:
I was in the pub on friday and Run To The Hills came on the jukebox... My first thoughts were of 1989, 15 years old, my denim jacket with the patches on it and their mascott Eddie... But then it struck me, the song was forking awesome... I got back from the pub and you tubed their entire back catalogue till the wee hours...
They are superb, I had forgotten how much so and I will have to get a used cd from Amazon this week

Funny that you should bring this up - i dug out Powerslave on CD last week to put in the car, been playing it to death ever since (at an ear splitting volume)
Still one of the best bands around and never fallen into the trap of taking themselves too seriously
Musical singalong perfection
