Yes, sorry!

Thanks Badger........I'll check it out. Personally, I would rather pay for a cab to take us there and pick us up.......saves the transfer hassle! Thing is, I don't want to leave my car there and Mr OS is saying his probably won't start after standing for two weeks (what he means is, he would rather leave mine there! )

Why wouldn't you want to leave your car their?

It's always amused me how many people say this.

Airport car parks are generally safe. I would suggest parking against a fence so that muppets with suitcases don't walk into your car. I learnt the hard way about that ...

I have parked Impreza, Supra and even a Porsche quite happily at the airport. And my Fiat Coupe unhappily when it got scratched (see above).

Couple of years ago I used a firm called Gatwick Valet Parking who met us at the drop off point with a trolley for our suitcases then disappeared with the car. When we returned we rang them whilst waiting for our cases and they were waiting outside with the car. Don't know where it had been parked but must have been very local and clean as no sign of dirt/mud etc on the wheels. Cost no more than parking up and getting the airport bus back. Can't locate their website so perhaps no longer around? Any way their email address was parking@gatwickvaletparking.co.uk and phone no 01293 823236

We book the gatwick hilton for the night before the flight and use Parking Express, Use them loads of times and never had a problem, touch wood.

Its a good way of hassle free flying as we use the Virgin Twilight Check in

Thanks for all your replies gang. (even you Tam! )

The reason I'm a bit wary is because a few years ago we used the car park at Luton and when we got back, someone had had theirs damaged by building work going on nearby. Plus I would rather just be dropped off and picked up and not be worrying whether or not the car is going to start on our return. I think I've managed to wear Mr OS down

Hey splicer - off to anywhere nice? Can i squeeze in you suitcase??

When we have flown from Gatwick South Terminal, we have used the Parking express car park - secure, and you take your keys with you...

seen too many horror stories re the car parks keep your keys ( such as valet park etc).. such as the car being parked nowhere near where they say it will be, being used by the employees for their own transport..

I don't know what you drive, but I use the Gatwick carparks frequently and there are an awful lot of exotic cars usually parked up including Porsches, Bentleys and it's in the middle of fields - no building sites at all. Plus the carpark operators have a little van that will come and jumpstart your car if you need it.

We stayed at the Sofitel and if you booke direct with the hotel, for one nights stay you can get 8 days valet parking free.

I would be reluctant to use any valet parking unless you know it is legit. Working near Gatwick I know how many cars appear parked up on local roads for a week or two and the disappear. Some will have been left by theor owners. some won't!

A word of warning about the places who pick up your car then bring it back at Gatwick....

A friend of mine used to work for one of them. If you saw where the cars were kept, and how they were driven you'd NEVER trust them

That's what worries me! We're a two Scoob household (mine's only a Sport Special ) and although it was Mr OS's idea to do it this year, he's volunteering mine to be the one we use!

Anyone who lets other people drive their cars away and potentially park them (at best) on some residential street in some god awful town near an airport is absolutley crazy IMO.
Unless of course you're talking about a 5 yr old Mondeo or similar.
