Need to be there on for 9:30am on Satuday (5:00am ish start ).
Been ages since I've been up that neck o' the woods.
My thinking is M6-->M69-->M1-->A1M
(I usually don't bother with the M42/A42, as its shyte - M69 always works out quicker).
Have done it once via thr M6 all the way up to Kendal way (Tebay?) and cut across back onto A1 which obviously is further but it was a interesting route
Also done Carlise and cut across aswell.
Hmm, seems Google maps has thrown a spazzy-fit and given me the sceneic route PMSL: from:sparkbrook to:Rosyth - Zeebrugge @56.020269, -1.447998 to:Blyth - Google Maps

That's all well and good; it does what the satnav and google does. But I'm asking for real world info though from fellow drivers, not computers
(proof being it sends me up the A46...which I know is shorter in distance, but takes longer in time due to being two lanes).

I used to drive from near Telford to Cramlington every week for 18 months when I was at Cosford, at the time I used to to find the fastest route was Brownhills Cannock up to Derby A38? then up to the M1, M1 to just south of Sheffield then the M18 across the A1. Then A1 (m) to A19, Tyne Tunnel, A19 past Silverlink up to Annitisford roundabout then up the spine road to Blyth.
