Anyone like Motocross?
Dave, my husband, has taken up motocross again after 11 years of being out of it. I, not one to stand on the sidelines doing nothing, decided to pick up the camera and have a go at some photography.
What do you guys think?

I think the latest ones are the best, but I did take over 1,000 pics yesterday!
Cheers

i used to ride but had to give it up when i bought the scoob i couldnt afford to have both
i still miss it now, i used to ride at leasure lakes (southport) trax (preston) kaister, armthorpe, finningley plus one or 2 others
your latest photos look fantastic much improved from the 1st meet on the page
one tip...get near a double just after the first jump and get down as low as you can for some air shots with as little as possible in the shots as they jump, the amatuers will snap them up as you are making them look like riding gods (i spent many years photographing my brother when i was young and unable to afford a bike)

I got a yellow jacket and signed in as a photographer yesterday, so it was access all areas. I tried not to get very much rope in! I do think about my safety too, I was reading on a MX forum today that a lady photographer (amateur like me), was run over whilst taking pics. Luckily it was an inter, so he was fairly light and didn't cause too much damage to her!

i dont blame you i have been run over by riders when i have been marshaling plus i have been run over by my own bike too (it hurts).
i would recommend that if you were uneasy about not being able to see the bikes before they approach the jump then stay on the side that they are approaching from and start off by picking out single riders to begin with at least you know that there will be nobody following him and getting out of shape
it is a bit scary especially when you have experts on track so i understand that point
if you are selling your pics already then it cant be all bad nice one

Yeah, I'm starting off cheap though, so I don't think I can give up work yet!!
I enjoy snapping experts, they seem to take more risks, but they go faster, so harder to get a perfect piccie. I think the dirt in our area is not great for those really deep trenches that send up lots of clouds of mud. They always look good in a pic.

i wish i still had some of the pics i took of my brother as he had one of them blown up real big and had it hanging on his lounge wall for a while
i think the better pics are from the riding dynamics when the bike and rider are in the perfect place
here is my old girl

A 2 stroke would need a piston once a year and maybe a set of rings (£80). A 4 stoke would need a top end rebuild once a year costing £300. I've no idea how a 4 stroke works so I'll give that to a local shop to sort out for me. I like the sound of a nice 250 2 stroke but the 450s are so easy to ride for an old boy like me.
Regular oil change and air filters will keep things healthy.

A year old bike may cost £2700, thats what I paid for my YZF 450. But my mate bought a 2003 YZF 450 for £1200 last year and still kicks my ***.

you cant beat the sound of a 2 stroke but you cannot hear your own bike if you are next to a 4 banger on track
i loved the sound at the GPs when they would take off from the line
how is the racing coming on dave??

Just get in and do it. You'll regret not doing it!
I'm 36 now and thought that I dont have many years left in me. If I mulled on it for another few months, then that's more wasted time.
I now realise I am on the start line with people in their 40s, 50s and even 60s!
I was chuffed the other day when I over took someone only for someone to tell me he was in his 60s, and nearer 70 than 60! Fair play to him!

Nearly 11 years out the saddle, my first time back on a bike was racing on the 450. I say racing......more riding.
I tried to get back in the AMCA juniors, but as I was an expert when I finished any they (the AMCA) put me in the seniors. I've been the last few riders home in all 5 races so far. I am improving, but it's very steady progress, far harder than I'd imagined. I've lost about 8 pounds so far.....but I reckon I still need to shift another stone. I'm not happy being at the back. It's still great fun, but my smile will be bigger when I'm a regular top 10 finisher.
This explains your "interesting" Ring driving Dave.....
