And todays price on the diesel go round is:
£1.32 pl
Ok it was a local garage, and not a major retailer, but FFS this is getting stupid.
My local Tesco's is £1.28 PL yet UL is £1.15
the difference used tp be 5p PL now its 13p.
At this rate it will be £2.60 a lite by the end of the year.
How long are we going to put up with being rogered sensless by rising costs + the double taxation?

I paid 121.9 on saturday per litre of diesel and today its 126.9 ................. 5p a litre increase in 4 day ffs!!!!
A refinery uses less crude oil to produce a litre diesel than a litre of petrol, but petrol is not rising in price faster than diesel?? If the price of crude oil was dictating fuel prices, the price of petrol would be overtaking diesel.
Someone is scamming the **** out of diesel car owners in this country!!

Old man tanked up his R8 last night with V-Power.
£1.25/litre.
I'm not due to tank mine up till next week. Could be £1.30 by then.
Government must be loving this. They must be getting £150m + extra a week by now.

Also, have taken the AA's advice and started driving to speed limits, coasting, not accelerating or braking, basically using the prevailing winds to get to work and my rather thirsty Saab Aero has gone from 23 MPG to 33 MPG.

The 406 sh*tter does 45-50mpg so it could be worse and i am sure it will get worse soon

If by coasting you mean dipping the clutch or rolling in neutral then this isn't the most economical method. You probably mean over-run, where you use your existing momentum, or gravity when going down hill, and lift off the throttle whilst in gear with the clutch engaged. Most modern engines will switch off the injectors on over-run, meaning they use no fuel at all until you ease the throttle back into play. Coasting will see then engine sit at idle where it needs fuel to maintain tick-over.

Is anybody here thinking of selling their high performance car for something more frugal because of the price of fuel? I'm certainly thinking about it as I'm burning £££££££s at a ridiculous rate. Problem is I'll take a massive hit on my car as I was hoping to keep it for another year or two to even out the deprec.

As for someone above complaining that diesel is being hammered - it's apparently the lack of refinery capacity due to every man and his dog buying diesel cars now. Don't see how this works really as there's no shortage at the pumps just high prices!
Petrol is the least of my worries - I work for an airline and we will be in serious trouble if the price remains this high for more than a couple of years!
To be honest I reckon that a small bunch of people are making a lot of money at our expense and certain countries are stockpiling oil in a typical panic buy scenario which is only making matters worse.
The advantage of owning a Scooby is that you can ditch it for a small diesel when the price hits £2.50 a litre and be no worse off than before

My fiancee's little 1.3 yaris sr got 51mpg yesterday.
Only getting around 35mpg in my 1.8 focus though. Doh!
So glad I gave up the scoob when I did.

I got 51mpg out of the missuses Octavia (2.0 PD140) on a Dales run last week, and I wasn't hanging around either, just driving cleverly. A learner asked me what was achievable around town in my Fabia vRS, so in the 5 miles back to his house after passing his test I managed 61.3mpg.

Its amazing how many people say coasting is a bad idea, someone told them in 1937 that it is and they still think its true, nobody can give and explanation as to why its a bad idea, your explanation re fueling makes sense but its a modern development, I think the old theory is to do with the driving test and before that because cars had woeful brakes and you had to partially slow down with the gears to ease the burden on the drums n crossplies ! I suppose if you need power quickly its not good to be in neutral but how often do you need power that instant if you are in the speed limits ?
