Default Best Song Lyrics ?

A verse or a chorus, Im still thinking about mine, but this from the Doors, Moonlight Drive seems about perfect to me,

Let's swim to the moon, ah ha
Let's climb through the tide
Penetrate the evenin' that the
City sleeps to hide
Let's swim out tonight, love
It's our turn to try
Parked beside the ocean
On our moonlight drive

Lets have yours,

Ag-a-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree
Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody.......

So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There’s vultures and thieves at your back
And the storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lie
That you make up for all that you lack
It don’t make no difference
Escaping one last time
It’s easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
This glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

___________________________________________

You must know someone like him - tall and strong and lean
Body like a greyhound and a mind so dark and keen
His heart just like a laurel grew twisted round itself
Till almost everything he did brought pain to someone else

Chorus:
It's not what you're born with
It's what you choose to bear
It's not how big your share is
It's how much you can share
It's not the fights you dreamed of
It's those you really fought
It's not what you're given
It's what you do with what you've got

What's the use of two good legs if you only run away
What's the use of the finest voice if you've nothing good to say
What good is strength and muscle if you only push and shove
And what's the use of two good ears if you can't hear those you love

Chorus:

Between those who use their neighbours and those who use a cane
Between those in constant power and those in constant pain
Between those who run to evil and those who cannot run
Tell me which ones are the cripples and which ones touch the sun

___________________________________________

It's a pity
It's a crying shame
Who pulled you down again?
How painful it must be
To bruise so easily inside

It's a pity
It's a downright crime
But it happens all the time
You wanna stay little daddy's girl
Wanna hide from the vicious world outside

But don't cry
Know the tears'll do no good
So dry your eyes

Your daddy he's the iron man
A battleship wrecked on dry land
Your mama she's a bitter bride
She'll never be satisfied,
And you know
That's not right

But don't cry
Know the tears'll do no good
So dry your eyes

They told you life is hard
It's misery from the start
It's dull and slow and painful

I tell you life is sweet
In spite of the misery
There's so much more
Be grateful

Who do you believe?
Who will you listen to
Who will it be?
It's high time that you decide
In your own mind

Tried to comfort you
Tried to tell you to be patient
They are blind
They can't see

Fortune gonna come some day
All gonna fade away
Your daddy the war machine and
Your mama the long and suffering
Prisoner of what she can not see

They told you life is hard
It's misery from the start
It's dull and slow and painful

I tell you life is sweet
In spite of the misery
There's so much more
Be grateful

Who do you believe?
Who will you listen to
Who will it be?

It's high time you decide
It's time you make up your own sweet little mind

They told you life is long
Be thankful when it's done
Don't ask for more
You should be grateful

But I tell you life is short
Be thankful because before you know
It will be over

Cause life is sweet
And life is also very short
Your life is sweet

.....amongst many more.

Different style, but brilliant.....

I never thought it would happen
With me and the girl from clapham
Out on a windy common
That night I ain't forgotten
When she dealt out the rations
With some or other passions
I said you are a lady
Perhaps she said I may be
We moved into a basement
With thoughts of our engagement
We stayed in by the telly
Although the room was smelly
We spent our time just kissing
The railway arms we're missing
But love had got us hooked up
And all our time it took up

I got a job with stanley
He said I'd come in handy
And started me on monday
So I had a bath on sunday
I worked eleven hours
And bought the girl some flowers
She said she'd seen a doctor
And nothing now could stop her

I worked all through the winter
The weather brass and bitter
I put away a tenner
Each week to make her better
And when the time was ready
We had to sell the telly
Late evenings by the fire
With little kicks inside her

This morning at 4:50
I took her rather nifty
Down to an incubator
Where thirty minutes later
She gave birth to a daughter
Within a year a walker
She looked just like her mother
If there could be another

And now she's two years older
Her mother's with a soldier
She left me when my drinking
Became a proper stinging
The devil came and took me
From bar to street to bookie
No more nights by the telly
No more nights nappies smelling

Alone here in the kitchen
I feel there's something missing
I'd beg for some forgiveness
But begging's not my business
And she won't write a letter
Although I always tell her
And so it's my assumption
I'm really up the junction

_______________________________

Better stop dreaming of the quiet life -
Cos it's the one we'll never know
And quit running for that runaway bus -
Cos those rosey days are few
And - stop apologising for the things you've never done,
Cos time is short and life is cruel -
But it's up to us to change
This town called malice.
Rows and rows of disused milk floats
Stand dying in the dairy yard
And a hundred lonely housewives clutch empty milk
Bottles to their hearts
Hanging out their old love letters on the line to dry
It's enough to make you stop believing when tears come
Fast and furious
In a town called malice.

Struggle after struggle - year after year
The atmosphere's a fine blend of ice -
I'm almost stone cold dead
In a town called malice.

A whole street's belief in Sunday's roast beef
Gets dashed against the Co-op
To either cut down on beer or the kids new gear
It's a big decision in a town called malice.

The ghost of a steam train - echoes down my track
It's at the moment bound for nowhere -
Just going round and round
Playground kids and creaking swings -
Lost laughter in the breeze
I could go on for hours and I probably will -
But I'd sooner put some joy back
In this town called malice.

Eyeless in the morning sun you were
Pale and mild, a modern girl
Taken with thought, still prone to care
Making tea in your underwear
You went out in the yard to find
Something to eat and clear your mind
Something bad inside me went away

Quaking leaves and broken light
Shifting skin the coming night
The bearers of all good things arrive
Climb inside us, twist and cry
A kiss on your molten eyes
Myriad lives like blades of grass
Yet to be realized, bow as they pass

They are cold,
Still,
Waiting in the ether,
To form,
Feel,
Kill,
Propagate,
Only to die

Dissolve
Magically,
Absurdly,
They'll end,
Leave,
Dissipate,
Coldly
And strangely
Return

She took the oldsmobile out past condor ave
And she locked the car and slipped past
Into rhythmic quietude
Lights burning
Voice dry and hoarse
I threw the screen door like a ******* back and forth
The chimes fell over each other
I fell onto my knees
The sound of the car driving off made me feel diseased
A sick shouting like you hear at the fairground
Now I'm picking up to put away anything of your's that's still around
I don't know what to do with your clothes or your letters
It'll make a whisper out of you
She took the oldsmobile out past condor ave
The fairground's lit
A drunk man sits by the gate she's driving through
Got his hat tipped bottle back in between his teeth
Looks like he's buried in the sand at the beach
I can't think about you driving off to leave barely awake
To take a little nap while the road is straight
I wish that car had never been discovered
They took away the bottle and the hat he was under
That's the one thing that he could never do
And it'll make a whisper out of you
She took the oldsmobile out past condor ave
Cops were running around the scene
Looking for some kind of clue
They never get uptight when a moth gets crushed
Unless a light bulb really loved him very much
I'm lying down
Blowing smoke from my cigarette
Little whisper smoke signs that you'll never get
You're in your oldsmobile driving by the moon
Headlights burning bright ahead of you
And someone's burning out, out on condor ave
Trying to make a whisper out of you
What a ****ty thing to say
Did you really mean it?
You never said a word to me about what passed between us
So now I'm leaving you alone
You can do whatever the hell you want to

You will never understand
how it feels to live your life,
with no meaning or control,
and with nowhere left to go.
You are amazed that they exist
and they burn so bright
whilst you can only wonder why.

and

we were on the bed when you came home,
I heard you stop outside the door.
I know you won't believe it's true,
I only went with her 'cos she looks like you.

and

I kiss your lips slowly while I undo your dress, my hand reaches down to gently caress.
But there's something there that I didn't expect, it's hot and fleshy and it's getting erect.
I've been cheated tonight, transvestite
Is this some kind of joke, you're really a bloke.

I'm not sure if I have heard the perfect lyrics, but the two songs that mean the most to me are either:

Hard-Fi's Better do better

You're back, sitting on my doorstep,
ah yeah like nothing happened.
Telling me you're free and oh,
can you see me again?
Yeah right, you've been kicked out,
do you think I'm that stupid?
You say you're free but didn't he just oh oh oh...
get tired of you kid.

I could not eat for days,
I cried so much my face,
has never been the same...
And now you're back here with your lies.
I hope you realise...

You think I'm gonna take you back!
You'd better do better than that.
I'll tell ya how its gonna be,
don't you never ever come near me.
Let me tell you how I've been:
I've been hiding from my friends,
hiding from the world,
hiding from myself.
You think you'll come round here,
start singing in my ear,
girl you damaged me,
I don't forgive so easily.
You better do better than that!

Your face makes me want to be sick,
ah yeah it's a physical reaction...
You'd better leave because you see I
Can't; won't be blamed for my actions.
Oh, how I ever loved you...
So dumb, how did I ever trust you?
But you and he laughed at me, oh
when you're laid together.

I couldn't eat for days,
I cried so much my face,
has never been the same...
And now you're back here with your lies.
I hope you realise...

You think I'm gonna take you back!
You'd better do better than that.
I'll tell ya how its gonna be,
don't you never ever come near me.
Let me tell you how I've been:
I've been hiding from my friends,
hiding from the world,
hiding from myself.
You think you'll come round here,
start singing in my ear,
girl you damaged me,
I don't forgive so easily.
You better do better than that!

I gave you everything I had girl,
but you had to try and take some more.
You went behind my back girl,
cheated on me, I was the last to know.
Did everything we have girl,
meant nothing to ya,
well I was such a fool...
Now you come crawling back girl,
oh let me tell ya I am through with you.

Oh I'm back up off the floor,
and I won't get hurt no more,
I've been waiting for this day when,
you'll be back here with your lies,
I hope you realise...

You think I'm gonna take you back!
You'd better do better than that.
I'll tell ya how its gonna be,
don't you never ever come near me.
Let me tell you how I've been:
I've been hiding from my friends,
hiding from the world,
hiding from myself.
You think you'll come round here,
start singing in my ear,
girl you damaged me,
I don't forgive so easily.
You better do better than that!

Say something, say something...
Say something, say something...

You'd better do better than that!

Or I'd have to choose Stop Me by Mark Rosnon/Daniel Merryweather (a Smiths cover)

Stop me, oh, stop me
Stop me if you think that you've
Heard this one before
Stop me, oh, stop me
Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before

Nothing's changed
I still love you, oh, I still love you
...Only slightly, only slightly less than I used to, my love

I was delayed, I was way-laid
An emergency stop
I smelt the last ten seconds of life
I crashed down on the crossbar
And the pain was enough to make
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect
And plan a mass murder
Who said I'd lied to her ?

Oh, who said I'd lied because I never ? I never !
Who said I'd lied because I never ?

I was detained, I was restrained
He broke my knee
He broke my spleen
(and then he really laid into me)
Friday night in Out-patients
Who said I'd lied to her ?

Oh, who said I'd lied ? - because I never, I never
Who said I'd lied ? - because I never

Oh, so I drank one
It became four
And when I fell on the floor ...
...I drank more

Stop me, oh, stop me
Stop me if you think that you've
Heard this one before
Stop me, oh, stop me
Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before

Nothing's changed
I still love you, oh, I still love you
...Only slightly, only slightly less than I used to, my love.
Get out of my life why don't you.
Stay out of my life why don't you.
Cos you don't reallty love me no, no
You just keep me hanging on.

Get out of my life why don't you babe.
Stay out of my life why don't you babe.
Cos you don't reallty love me no, no
You just keep me hanging on.

A very clever lyric about what happens when a couple who indulge in taking photos of themselves in compromising positions break up. Not the full song.
--------------------------------------------------------------

You cant brush me under the carpet, you cant hide me under the stairs
The custodian of your private fears, your leading actor of yesteryear
Who as you crawled out of the alleys of obscurity
Sentenced to rejection in the morass of anonymity
You who I directed with lovers will
You who I let hypnotise the lens
You who I let bathe in the spotlights glare
You who wiped me from your memory like a greasepaint mask
Just like a greasepaint mask

But now Im the snake in the grass, the ghost of filmreels past
Im the producer of your nightmare and the performance has just begun
Its just begun, its just begun

Your perimeter of courtiers jerk like celluloid puppets
As you stutter paralysed with rabbits eyes, searing the shadows
Flooding the wings, to pluck elusive salvation from the understudys lips
Retrieve the soliloque, maintain the obituary
My cue line in the last act and you wait in silent solitude
Waiting for the prompt, waiting for the prompt

Please clean the plates, dear.
The Lord above can see ya.
Don't you know people are starving in Korea?
Alcohol and razor blades and poison and needles,
Kindergarten people - they use 'em, the need 'em.
Over-indulging machines were their children.
There wasn't a way down on Earth to cool 'em,
'Cause they look just like humans at Kresges and Woolworths.
But decadent brains were at work to destroy.
Brats in battalions were ruling the streets,
Sayin' generation landslide closed the gap between 'em.

And I laugh to myself at the men and the ladies
Who never conceived of us billion dollar babies.

Militant mothers hiding in their basement
Using pots and pans as their shields and their helmets.
Molotov milk bottles heaved from pink high chairs,
While Mothers' Lib burns birth certificate papers.
Dad gets his allowance from his sonny, the dealer,
Who's pubic to the world but involved in high finance.
Sister's out 'til five doing banker's son's hours.
But she owns a Maserati that's a gift from his father.
Stopped at full speed at one hundred miles per hour.
The Colgate invisible shield finally got 'em.

And I laugh to myself at the men and the ladies
Who never conceived of us billion dollar babies.

Hallucinate
Dessegregate
Mediate
Alleviate
Try not to hate

Love your mate
Don't suffocate on your own hate
Designate your love as fate
A one world state
As human freight
The number eight
A white black state
A gentle trait
The broken crate
A heavy weight
Or just too late
Like pretty Kate has sex ornate
Now devastate
Appreciate
Depreciate
Fabricate
Emulate
The truth dilate
Special date
The animal we ate
Guilt debate
The edge serrate
A better rate
The youth irate
Deliberate

Fascinate
Deviate
Reinstate
Liberate
To moderate
Recreate
Or detonate
Annihiliate
Atomic fate

Mediate
Clear the state
Activate
Now radiate
A perfect state
Food on plate
Gravitate
The Earth's own weight
Designate your love as fate
At ninety-eight we all rotate

Pink Floyd with Time. The lyrics strike far too many chords with people of a certain age...

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but youre older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought Id something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
Its good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

U2 - Bad

If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would
Let it go
Surrender
Dislocate

If I could throw this
Lifeless lifeline to the wind
Leave this heart of clay
See you walk, walk away
Into the night
And through the rain
Into the half-light
And through the flame

If I could through myself
Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day

To let it go
And so to fade away
To let it go
And so fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no

If you should ask then maybe they'd
Tell you what I would say
True colors fly in blue and black
Bruised silken sky and burning flag
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would
Let it go...

This desperation
Dislocation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation
Let it go

And so fade away
To let it go
And so fade away
To let it go
And so to fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no

Party Fun Action Committee - I shoulda known (Think Eddie Murphy and R Kelly)

It's friday night, i want to get my swerve on
The club is hopping, let's see what's popping
And uh the ladies were jocking, the fellas are clocking
The cris is pouring; tonight it's a sure thing
See i got my american flag du-rag on so you know that i'm looking top notch
I'm just looking for a girl to bag ya'll
So i can take her home and play hopskotch on her *****
Now i see this fly honey all alone at the bar
I give her a glance in my b-boy stance
I roll up to her and i ask her her name
She squeezes my thigh, and she whispers lorraine
So i looked in her eyes, and knew it was on
Then she grabbed my hand, and let me tug her thong
And the next thing i knew, we were in my whip
Driving to my crib, while she's suckin' my dick
So we got into the house, and the temperature rose
We made out for awhile and i sucked on her toes
I kissed her on the neck, and i headed downtown
To lick that coochie, but a hairy dick flopped down!

I should have known... she was six feet tall
I should have known... i mean the broad was broad
I should have known... by the size of her hands
I should have known... that she was a man
I should have known... her voice was kinda low
I should have known... by the adam's apple in her throat
I should have known... that she had a plan
I should have known... that the bitch was a man

It's friday night, just finished rocking the show
My encore song was nice and slow
Ladies are scoping, the fellas just hoping
Me, i'm just chilling, backstage smoking
I see some girls flashing their backstage passes
I tell the bouncer let em in, cuz they have fat asses
Oh my my, these girls looked fly, fly fly
But there's one in particular, she caught my eye
So i kicked my game, and before you knew it
We were in the bathroom, ready to do it
But i said, wait a minute, let me get my camera
Cuz i'ma make an amateur porno
First scene, i'm pissing on your picture
Second scene, we all getting nailed
Third scene, that was the worst scene
That's when i found out you were only thirteen
I ****ed you so hard, that your backpack packed off
And out dropped your i.d., date of birth 90
What's done is done, and i can't do nothing
So i opened up your mouth and took a dump in it

I should have known... by your little pink backpack
I should have known... by the stupid way you ****ing act
I should have known... when i signed your highlights magazine
I should have known... that you were only thirteen
I should have known... by your underdeveloped breasts
I should have known... you kept talkin' bout some math test
I should have known... by the way your braces gleam
I should have known... that you were only thirtee

I quite like the lyrics to this one:

Mustang Sally uh-huh
Guess you better slow your Mustang down
Oh Lord what I said now

Mustang Sally now baby
Oh Lord guess you better
Slow your Mustang down hu-oh yeah

You been runnin all over town now
Oh I guess I have to put your flat feet
On the ground
Hu! what I said now

Listen!
All you wanna do is ride around Sally
(Ride Sally ride)
All you wanna do is ride around Sally
(Ride Sally ride)
All you wanna do is ride around Sally
(Ride Sally ride) huh
All you wanna do is a ride around Sally
Alright (ride Sally ride)
Well listen to this etc...

That has to be the best ever, apart from the slight Wakemanesque bollocks at the end.
