I use to have a pair of them!! It was like walking on paper because the soles were so thin!!!
I think the "ankle protector" was different from what i remember.

It was a pair of Cherry Reds and a donkey jacket for me..
I wasn't into the Tachini / Pringle scene.

We were poor, I had Hi-Tec Squash. (although one year I did get badminton instead and was really chuffed to have blue rather than green)

Correct. Early 80's was Harrignton Jakets, Pork pies, braces , DM's etc.
I didn't buy my Tacchini tracksuit top until 1984

Oxblood docs, white polo, and......City of Plymouth Council donkey jacket. They were the ones with the leather style patch over the back of the shoulders, in this case with City of Plymouth on it. The type that street sweepers used to wear! We aimed high job wise in those days!
