Default Watching films on planes, is it just me...

Does this happen to anyone else ?

You watch a film on a plane and you think it was a pretty decent film, only to watch it again at a later date and realise it was a complete pile of pants

Now the general makeup for me watching a film on a plane is usually a fair amount of whiskies (in the bar, then on the plane itself) then the equivalent of watching your own TV from a great distance with the hoover on full belt (small screen and Jet engine noise)

I dont know how much the alcohol plays a part or the fact that it relieves boredom or just that im on holiday that makes the films seem good

the last time we went we all watched Charlies Angels 2 and pretty much laughed all the way through and we didnt bother with the headphones

lol last one I remember watching was the Magic Roundabout, and I believe it would fit into the above catagory.

I just flit about from iPod to sleeping, to walking about, to watching short shows etc.

26 days time, I will be trying to pass another 9 hours lol

Other way round for me. Oceans 12 was a complete mystery to us as you could hardly hear it and having a 3 year old with us meant we kept missing bits.

My problem on planes is trying to stay awake enough to watch a film, I fall asleep anywhere I'm bad in the car too, I'll sleep for hours, not when I'm driving though

The problem with plane movies for me is that I always get some tosser in the seat in front who puts their seat back, which means that my eyes end up at the wrong angle to the screen so I can see half the screen OK and the other half ends up with inverted colours. *******s

Dont fly Delta to Atlanta, we watched something on a 14 inch portable 10 rows forwards, the sound came from the ground by loud hailer, totally useless.

Just better to get drunk and wake up feeling wretched with six hours to go, no chance of a tommy, no chance of comfort, no chance of anything, even multiple engine failure would be a welcome diversion.

watched Ratatuoille (sp) and I am Legend on the flight(s) to and from NZ earlier in the year and thoroughly enjoyed both .
admittedly, its very rare I ever sit and watch a film at home.. but on a plane, theres the boredom angle and you pretty much are a 'captive audience'

Goes both ways with me; some films I thought were good turn out to be crap when watching them again back on terra firma and some I thought were crap were actually quite good:

I think its the audio; Aircraft audio systems has such terribly tinny quality that its hard to hear whats going on. Even when using my own top quality head phones or earphones (the ones that act as ear plugs and are noise cancelling), it sill sounds worse than an amplifier made with 741 op-amps (anyone who knows what a 741 op-amp is will know what I mean ),

Christ, if you can get a phone or Mp3 player the size of a raffle ticket that has half decent audio quality; why on earth can't the companies that fit out the entertainment systems on these flying tin cans make anything decent??

I know what you mean SM

And why is it they still use Video tape too my portable DVD player works fine on planes so it cant be anti-shock/vibration reasons

Jacko I know what you mean too, we watched A Perfect Storm on a fold down 8" TV screen that was shared amongst ten rows of seats, it was in the middle of the aisle too, so every time someone stood up or drinks service came round you got to watch someones back instead !

You have to check the timetable. I used to commute to Atlanta (well, go every few weeks) and when BA was full I had to go with (the awful) Delta. On the Atlanta route they have two flights a day and one uses an extremely old 747 and the other a 747-400 with in-seat entertainment. Both flights you had to pay for alcohol though ...

Its not the tiredness, well being on a flight on a rather large come down can be.

Its just the boredom, as the films etc had not been changed once in that period

Ah okay. I always flew from Gatwick. And after the shock of getting on a Delta plane and thinking I had suddenly been timewarped back 15 years I always checked what plane I was booking!

Some of the A380's use a linux / mythtv derivative to stream to the screens. This means you can pause/rewind/ffwd. Lag is still horrible and the content is mostly cr*p still

I was more interested in watching it boot up than the content. It's a long 12hours to joburg....
