Angry Job going, use your own car, buy your own uniform, minimum wage, no paid holiday...

As a few of you know a few months ago I took a part-time job (17 hours a week) in a local pharmacy to get me out of the house and help me out of a bout of depression (I work from home, live 200 miles from all my friends and family and never saw a soul ).

Anyway I really enjoyed the job working in my local village and getting to know all the oddballs that live in it Not only that it was fantastic learning who had what ailments, who was suffering with what and god knows what else - Viagra users I know who you are

So the boss asked me if I could drive and would I mind doing deliveries to which I agreed to. However once I'd started the job he informed that it would be in my own car and they would pay me a petrol allowance of 20p a mile, yes that's twenty whole pence a mile, woohoo I asked them if they would also be paying the increased cost of insurance for me to use my car for their business, I was told they would look into it. I was also being paid minimum wage

Then I was told I had to buy my own uniform, this cost £36! I did it begrudgingly

Next I discovered that the boss was a Born Again Christian and that the shop was owned by the leader of this particular church. Not only that but the boss was a preacher in training. Now I'm not religious in any way and don't need to be given a sermon every day lasting all day but that's just about what I got. I wasn't allowed to swear, blaspheme or use words like 'lucky' which is the devil's word apparently I live in sin with my partner too *shock horror* so you can imagine what he thought of this

Fortunately for me I have a lot of patience and was able to blank a lot of this out (or so I thought) but after three months my patience was wearing extremely thin, this man was very difficult to work for, VERY!

I kept asking about them paying for me to insure my car to use it for their business and kept getting fobbed off. Eventually I was told in no uncertain terms that it was not something they could do and that they basically expected me to use my car uninsured for their business use I refused point blank to use it any more which didn't go down too well but I didn't want to drive illegally. It's covered for my own use but not for theirs so if I'd have had an accident whilst delivering for them I would've been technically uninsured and, we all know how insurance companies like to wheedle their way of of paying in the event of an accident.

When I first started they were offering me three weeks holiday which I negotiated up to four weeks, I then found out about the extra eight days bank holiday thing when I looked up all my entitlements on the interweb and sorted it all out with the boss. As I had holidays already booked I asked if they would honour this and they agreed. Then yesterday, just under two weeks before I go away on holiday came the final straw when I was told that the company don't pay holiday pay and did I realise that? Erm no, you must've omitted to mention that So I told him to stick it up his skinny little ***, well I said it a bit more politely than that but that's what I wanted to say

So if anyone wants a job on minimum wage, use your own car (uninsured), buy your own uniform, no holiday pay, be converted to a Born Again, I know where there's one going

It's a shame really as apart from everything else I actually enjoyed getting to know all the folk in my village and I'll miss them all, even the wierdos

So a few little niggles working for a very nice man and you come on here moaning

==================

He sounds a right little s,hit. But these types all have a naughty secret, sexual or financial, so you just need to discover what that is and take it from there........

But I am sure that there will be other jobs in your hamlet for a young attractive lady so keep on the case. Oh and lob a brick through the pharmacy window

Odd about the holiday entitlement... Holiday entitlements: introduction : Directgov - Employment tells you all you need to know.

Personally I would've told him to 'luck off'

Lol, i'd have been winding the ****** up something chronic by keep saying 'Lucky' and swearing.

BTW, if he is paying you minimum wage the I think you are entitled to holiday pay as employment agencies have to pay it when temping. Get to Citizens advice bureau and take it further as he sounds like a bully who will take all he can if not challenged.

Sal, am really glad you a ditching this job. The things you have told me about that clown don't bear thinking about.

Have a fantastic holiday and when you get back, try to get someone to take his pic when he realises you are not returning to his wonderful place of work or should I say worship . I would love to see the look on his face

I am very suspicious of religious people, especially ones that dont have to be !

Sounds like a fruit cake of the highest order, well done on leaving, he was taking the p1ss, you work to pay your own bills, not theirs.

He knows I'm not going in any more, I told him last night

I am officially free again and it feels GREAT, I want to run down the street naked and jumping for joy

Did you know that the members of this cult, er I mean church have to give 10% of their income to it for God because God needs "financial substance" as well as spiritual substance?

No I'm already going there apparently because I don't carry £150 in my wallet at all times and, once I reach the gates of heaven I'll be asked to give some money and if I can't do it then I'll go to hell

Seriously, he told me that!

Bloomin' heck Sal, the bloke was really taking the Michael! As so often is the case in life you give em' an inch and they take a mile. I bet if you'd moaned, complained and been a general pain in the butt you would have got your own way every time. You know my stance on religion, I find it staggering that you were having it rammed down your throat (please no puns). Infact I think you have a very good case for constructive dismissal.

Maz, I only worked there for 4 months and it wasn't my main source of income so I'm not too bothered, I still run my business The other lady that worked there left a couple of months ago for EXACTLY the same reasons as me, she loved the work, hated the company and the boss

It grates that this bloke can treat people like this. He's hardly going to win people over with the sort of attitude he has.

Maz He'll just say it was Gods will that he kept the money and will donate it to the church. That way, Sals soul is safe
