Default Kids Shopping?

That mum who shopped her grown up kids to the law after they beat a man half to death and left him blinded in one eye. Basically drunken thugs.

Brave thing to do perhaps and she has been ostracised by others in her family.

But was she right or was her first duty to protect her children?

I'd be hard pushed to shop my kids unless someone else was about to be done for the crime in error.

But then where do you draw the line - would you be prepared to provide an alibi and perjure yourself?

And can you be forced to give evidence against your children?

Views invited. dl

I think it would depend on the crime, but if we just stick with what this case was about, I think I would do the same as this woman. I think she has done what she believed was right, and taken a massive risk in doing so, one which seems to have cost her, her family, at least at the moment. I truely would be disgusted if someone close to me could do such a thing, the only thing I'd possibly do, is give them the chance to hand themselves in first.

I can understand the issue of protecting your children, but there becomes a point at which, you have done your best to raise them, and you can't shield them from the real world anymore, and they have to become responsible for their own behaviour. As if this attack wasn't bad enough, if she or anyone else protected them from punishment, how would they feel, if there was a next time they drunkenly attacked someone, only that time they took a life.

I'd love to ask the same question to a copper/lawyer/judge. I think that could be interesting.

Obviously, you couldn't trust the lawyer
