The real problem is when that day comes to its inevitable end. You then have to ask if it was all really worth it!

Very sad to see the last few years of this downward spiral. Seems his life went south when he made that dreadful tackle all those years ago, talk about a life changing in a split second.

Sad ...........

The trappings of success and wealth are great, but so is the fall from grace.

YouTube - Gazza - Paul Gascoigne

He has done things, experienced things, that we can only dream about - remember that when you take the easy route of slagging him off!

At 33s - possibly one of the best goals ever (as long as you're not one of our Scots cousins!)

Poor chap, at least he got in before they close the hospital!

I think Chris Moyles had a rather good rant this morning when I was on the way to work. He basically pointed out how the red tops are now, taking glee in charting his downward spiral, and will suddenly change their tune, if (and hopefully it wont for a long time) he passes away due to his problems. Where suddenly they will take the moral high ground.

The blokes mental state has been well documented through out the years, and apparently all stems from seeing his best mate hit and killed in a car crash during his childhood.

Not sure whether he can be lumped into the same category as George Best, but i'm sure that there will be people ready to kick the bloke, for being human and like most people having frailties. The difference being his talent was considerably greater than those mocking him but inversely his frailties are also of a greater level.

so if he wasnt a football player you would still be kissing his feet

i dont care what he has done in his life!! its his life not mine! people have tried to help him many times but he still turns to drink!! the only time i would praise him was if he came out and said "im clean im not gonna touch another drop" that is what he should be praised for.

anyway why am i arguing with my dad

As somebody has already said his problems go back to his childhood. I once had a client who used to be his shrink, she said he was such a nice guy and suffered very badley from OCD. I bet a lot of people don't know that he gives hundreds of thousands of pounds to charity; well he did in his hay day. Please don't rope him in to the same league as that ex alkey waster George Best

I fel sorry for our top sports people, those that give everything to their sport and their country. They are paid huge amounts of money (but leaving that to one side) they are in the dustbin before the age of 40. At the prime of life.

Clubs should take more responsibility for life after sport. Gazza is a tragedy, and now a shame to our country and his sport. It could surely have been avoided.

Richard.

When someone as talented as he was; at such a young age; has so much pressure on him (from a whole nation lets not forget) but isn't supported properly by those living of his skills but is instead led astray by tossers like Danny Baker and Chris Evans it really is sad.

Those who take the **** or slag him off should be ashamed, he doesn't deserve to be kicked when he's down; he deserves our support.

Get well soon Gazza.

It's good that people have realised he's mentally ill and he needs all the help he can get, he needs to be sectioned for a long time for his own good.
What I want to know is where have the likes of Chris Evans, Danny Barker and Jimmy 5 bellies gone? When Gazza was playing football they were more than happy to be photographed with him half cut at gone 2 in the morning. Now when he needs his friends the most none of them are in sight.
