yes, you can get the best one from snap on, it cost £300 plus iirc. we have one at work for taking lorry wheel nuts off, it shifts them in seconds. down side is it weighs loads. but they are brilliant!

I actually have a cousin thats a snap on rep if you would like me to get you a price?

About 10 years ago they used to use a makita one with a 12V battery on a couple of metres long lead. This had an adjustable torque setting when tightening, not accurate as it was based on the number of impacts. Then about 5 years ago they stopped using electric wheel nut guns at all because they were using alloy wheel nuts with the inherent risk of stripping threads if over tightened. Now Ford at least and no doubt the other teams are on titanium studs but not sure if still with alloy nuts. So sorry I can't comment about current usage in service areas.

But I have seen some shots of punctures during a stage being changed a year or so ago with a 24V makita, BTW200(anorak alert!) it's distinctive on TV as it has a very square black battery.

I've just bought an 18V makita BTW251 for my sprint car, very small and light and has shifted everything I've thrown at it so far. But it's only 170ftlb so I can forsee occasions that it won't shift nuts that are dirty, corroded, fitted by kwik fit gorillas with an air gun. For a rally car where wheels are on and off twice a day this shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise highly recommended.
