Just looking at getting a new phone, currently have an N73 on everyday 50 !
Decided to go on Orange Dolphin 35 and Orange can do me this for £25 a month on 18 month contract with an Nokia 6500 slide in black.
Now, phones4u and carphone warehouse can do Dolphin 35 with a nokia 6300 over 18 months for £35 a month but will through in a PS3. - i pay £180 more over the contract this way but save £120 on the PS3.
Is there a catch with these sort of things?
Will i be able to keep my number aswell?
Cheers

I have recently gone through the new phone buying process. In fact, my Samsung G600 only arrived 10 mins ago and is sitting unopened in front of me. Basically there is deal after deal after deal online offering free PS3's, xbox's, cashback, half line rental, etc, etc.
None of these things are actually free in that you will pay for them in one way or another. However, if you take the example of the deal I am on: I get £210 of cashback over the next 18 months but it has to be claimed successfully 5 times at 6,9,12,15 and 18 months. Each claim isn't for a great deal of money and is not without hassle. Furthermore, there are many ways you can f-up and void your claim and you only have a certain period in which to make it.
Personally, I'm of the belief that if I successfully make all claims the company will either break even or actually lose out on selling me the phone/deal at the rate they did. I believe their profit edge comes solely from the fact that a high percentage of people won't bother or will fail to claim some or all of their redemption payments. So that's the catch; to benefit you have to be diligent, read the T&C's back to front and on time with everything you do to make your claims, etc. Most people simply aren't like that which is why these people can make seemingly crazy offers of 'free' stuff and remain in business.

If you do go with that deal to get a PS3, print out the T&C's, specifically where it states it's a brand new machine and take it along to the shop with you and make them totally aware you're expecting a brand new PS3.
Someone on here went for a similar deal for an Xbox 360 and the cheeky ****** at the shop gave them a pre-owned one instead of a new one.

Do you think that the rate of successful redemptions is higher, or lower, in Scotland...?

Word of warning though. I took up a similar offer a couple of years ago and before i could even make my first redemption the company went bust, so i had to pay the full £40 a month for the next 12 months (the offer was 70% off line rental over the year, which would of worked out about £12 a month) 02 said it was nothing to do with them and i couldnt cancel the contract.

I got my XBOX 360 through a deal like this from the onestopphoneshop a couple of years ago. Ordered the phone and when my 1st bill came through I sent that off to them and a couple of weeks later I got a brand new 360, granted it was only the core version but still not bad getting a £180 console for free.
I didn't need to get a higher tarrif than I needed so never spent anymore than I would of done anyway.
