Will be much better for actually spectating at the circuit, but it'll have even less over taking oportunities than Silverstone! (although Senna managed ok when Donny hosted the Euro GP years ago)

I cant believe that the FIA are going there, its too short, the spectators are too close so they can see the cars, the access is crap (unless like me you live locally) and the run off areas would be a joke in an F1 car.....pits are too small and crap, spectator facilities are stone age, with the loos being even older than that, it may well be that they screw up the place in making changes.

Yes but I bet they bugger about with it to suit Bernie

You just have to read the letters in this weeks MCN from spectators who went to the MotoGP

Couldn't agree more. They criticise Silverstone for stone age facilities then move it to Donnington

Last time I was there the official gents toilet was pi$$ing up the wall behind the ladies' toilet block.

Access to Donnington is a total nightmare, when you eventually get in the track its like going back in time and the track is far too short for a F1 race.

The facilities are dire, personally i think they should bulldoze Donnington and start again on the land and build something modern and high tech that brings motor racing into the modern world.

I know. Personally its more sabre waving by "His Lordship" and his inability to accept someone elses opinion (namely the BRDC).

The government is blamed for not stepping in to help Silverstone so who is paying for Donnington? Brands would have been the best choice but they never got planning permission.

In terms of facilities silverstone is the best track in the UK by miles. Mallory and brands are the best for views of the track but Dony is a complete dump and you couldn't pay me to go there again.

The owners of the track are spending 100m over the next 5 years.

As for it being too short maybe they will bridge across and use the runways as well.

How can they afford to invest £100m in Donington ? They have to pay Bernie a lot of money to bring the F1 circus there, so if the BRDC can't afford to pay Bernie what he wanted given they have track which is 100% there and pits/facilities which still needed £30m spent, how on earth will the Donington owners get the revenue they need to pay for it? Donington will have to be ready for 2010, they can't phase-in the expenditure over 10 years, the vast majority will have to be committed over the next 24 months.

Bonkers.

I used to enjoy racing at Donington, it is a testing track, especially Craner Curves, but I don't consider it to be a really good F1 track. I imagine this is a political decision by Eccleston for all sorts of reasons which we will never know about. He has had it in for Silverstone and the BRDC for years now.

It always seemed to me that what mattered about a track was the racing as well of course decent facilities for the teams etc. I get the impression that Ecclestone and his mates are more interested in the accommodation coupled with the red carpet treatment for himself and all the hangers on who come to watch.

Silverstone is a real F1 track and has been for so many years, it was the birthplace of British motor racing after WW2. The facilities are adequate for F1racing anyway.

I think it will be a major mistake to move the GP to Donington just for his predelictions and delusions of grandeur anyway!

What are the odds on NO British GP in 2010 because Donington isn't ready? It probably is a better track for spectator viewing than Silverstone but the facilities need an awful lot of work to bring them up to even to Silverstone's present standards which presumably they will be looking to exceed by a good margin.

I think it's crazy idea but then again a lot of what happens in F1 is

2 years and £100m will give Donington all the time and opportunity they need to get things ready. The track is going to be lengthened, the pits complex are already in the middle of being upgraded. Silverstone has dragged its **** for the last 5 years, announcing grand plans to maybe upgrade the circuit(plans are all they are at this stage) was never going to satisfy Bernie. In the wake of this decision the Silverstone redevelopment is going to be canned, and Damon and the BRDC are going to bitch about this for 12 months, saying how their grand plans were sabotaged by Bernie. If you took what they said at face value, the BRDC would have you believe they lost money hosting the F1 GP, due to the fees and other expenses. Now they don't have pay vast amounts of cash to FOM, you'd think they will have all the money they need to do the redevelopment..... This way we guarantee the GP here, and get another F1 standard circuit too.

I'm not sure the track being right next to East Midlands Airport is a good or a bad thing....

Okay - good in that the links to get to the track are excellent by air. The M1 right next door, but only a single road then to the track, they'll have to close the A42 junction or else it'll be a nightmare

What about all the helicopters coming in? It'll disrupt services at EMA like nothing else and one of the main approaches is right over the race course - how will THAT be handled????

It will need a ****load of money spending on the facilities to bring it upto par with other F1 venues. Not bothered about F1 being there, but it will benefit all the motorcycles events, so hopefully better facilities for the biker spectators.

The road improvements alone could be tied up in planning enquiries and disputes until 2010 !

I wanna Punch Ecclestone soo hard the w@nker, he has always had it in for Silverstone, he was never happy with it even after millions were spent on improving the A43 into Silverstone and now the little **** wants to pull the plug, well I hope the little git chokes on all his money he makes me sick, he has no idea how the fans feel, their is only one place for the British Grand Prix and tht is SILVERSTONE, the sooner you get out of F1 Eccelstone the better the sport will be and take your queer whipping I like it on the ar@e Moseley with you, you sniffling little git
Cheers
Colin
