Advice with our flat mate wanting to pay via housing association

My brother and I's flat mate recently lost his job and has signed on at the job centre and getting the £80 odd every other week I think it is. He says he's spoken to the housing association and they said they'd pay his rent for him whilst he's out of work.
What are your thoughts on this?
Many thanks

i know a few people who have benefitted from this sort of thing in the past. not sure of he detail, but i expect they'll want to see a tenancy agreement so they can confirm he is actually residing there
as far as "should you be concerned that they money is coming from elsewhere rather than from your friend, ie a source you know and can influence", i wouldn't be too worried if i were you. as long as he follows correct procedure, the income should be reliable

Didnt they change the way its paid recently and it goes to he tenant first who THEN pays the rent?
sure something like that luckily our useless tenant moved out before this but just wrecked the place. Still the £500 deposit covered it. ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Although I used to prefer private paying tenants I did sometimes let out my properties to DSS tenants. The one thing that could have potentially been annoying in my area, but thankfully wasn't, is the fact the DSS pay the tenant and he/she is expected to pay you. The money never came straight to me.
However, I was fortunate to never have a problem and I suspect in your case as the guy is a friend then you shouldn't either. Whether or not the amount housing pay is as much as he pays you now is a different matter, you'll need to ask.

and the money the guy paid in tax etc while working doesn't count?I have no problem with folk that lose their job and claim for things they need to help them get through hard times, thats what its there for. What annoys me is the ones that have never had or have no intention of getting a job but still expect everything handed to them, free house, free money, free healthcare
