The Swiss National Bank sold around 3 times as much of the shiny stuff than Gordo. He's not the only fool out there.

Anywhere else, he would have been sacked for gross negligence/stupidity. At least he won't survive the next general election.

If he carries on and lets the pound devalue to the same level as the dollar, we'll be ok......

Gordon Brown has been an honest and honourable SERVANT of this country. His decision to sell gold gave him money which he could invest and help in the control of money supply (inflation). It is a shame that the Capitalist Times Newspaper only sees short term profits (i.e selling gold at the 2006 peak prices) but cannot comprehend the cyclical benefits of managing the country's long term benefits. It is shameful how unbalanced you have witch hunted Gordon, the truth is he will be the next PM and an excellent one. Gordon Brown is an intellegent and wise man. The selfish capitalists can not give this new Messiah his due credit.

This very strange action of his has been mentioned several times on this forum. He must have been very pushed financially to have been forced to do this, or he is a complete clown!

Most of his actions seem to be thought up on the fly and are very poorly thought through. He seems to be a danger to this country in most of what he actually does.

Because he announced that he was going to sell this gold, he guaranteed that he would get the lowest possible price. This low point in the market is now forever known as the "Brown Bottom".

You have to love the irony tho! Brown's policies have been destroying the long-term economic health of the UK for the last 10 years - but giving the illusion that the economy is very strong to the average punter. All that time Brown has been spouting "no more boom and bust" while gagging to be PM - then when he finally gets there it all goes pop in the biggest bust for at least 30 years, and he becomes probably the most unpopular PM in history

For reasons of propriety and regularity its not good practice to promote a financial director into a CEO's post - isn't Brown's promotion an equivalent to this???
