Best 46" LCD???
Hi All,
Looking for around a 46" TV for living room. Going to do a custom install of some sort as the living room is ripped out at the moment and being changed about. I have a 32" Samsung LCD at the moment which I'm impressed with. That is going on the kitchen wall, and I'd like a 46" for the living room. I'd like a Samsung, as I like the one I've got, but after a quick poke about on AV forums, it seems many people like the Sony 46" LCD. Any views on here?? I know some of you guys like your Tv's. I cant go too mad with money, budget is around £1000-£1200 if I can't get decent quality at that price, I'd rather loose a few inches (ohh err) and downsize to maybe 42".

I bought a Pioneer 4280XD 42" Plasma about a month ago and it is awesome. Not sure you will still find one though as they have Gen 9 sets out now and they no longer make a 42" model (mine is Gen 8). Gen 10 42" will be back I believe but they are teaming up with Panasonic and it will be an LCD rather than plasma.

Best place to look for your query mate, loads of tech heads get on there. They source some good deals for certain tv's too.

I personally wouldn't choose an LCD at that size (unless you like your blacks a shade of grey ), Plasma is the best option.
Just got this 46" Panasonic for the living room and must say from turning on and flicking through a few Freeview channels this evening it's pretty impressive for standard definition! Will try some HD content at some point and want to get it hooked up to a HTPC at some point.
Panasonic TH46PZ80B Plasma 46" 16:9 Viera 1080p Inc Ped | EmpireDirect.co.uk Electrical Appliances
We got it from Empire Direct, delivery within days and they had a 10% off day bringing the cost down to just over £1000, but used Quidco and saved another £20! This fits your budget nicely.

I have a Samsung LE46M86 (latest is M87 now I think) and it is a superb set.
Havent noticed any issues with blacks looking grey (contrast ratio is 15000:1 so one of the best for this) and the picture from HD sources is excellent.
Has 3 1.3 HDMI connectors (panasonic only do 2 1.2 connectors, so older standard, and also only 10000:1 contrast ratio) and looks amazing, had a Vieira plasma previously and its nice not to ahve the "screen burn" issues you get with Plasmas, plus plasmas weight a ton in comparison if you want to wall mount it at any stage.
After a lot of looking about it was my choice and can defo recommend them, only slight downside is the remote is slow, so you have to wait a few secs when changing between sources, but generally you'll be using your sky remote/dvd remote, so only need that remote to change between the sources.

Bob,
Thanks for that. I've been looking at the LE46M87, so nice to hear from someone who has something very similar. I never really give weight any thought, but it is going to be wall mounted. (It is going on a brick/mortar wall thought so should be strong enough whatever). Thats it then, going to take a trip to Currys (not to purchase, unless they will price match internet) but to actually see a few sets running side by side.

God, it all moves so quick!! Ive not had my long but the comparitive replacement is spec'd up massively, 4 HDMI connectors and much improved contrast ratio of 50000:1 SAMSUNG LE46A656A1FXXU LCD TV | Laskys.com
Ho hum, have to keep this one at least another 2 years, problem is they're worth nothing by the time they're over about a year old, just a consumable really.
If the one above is better than the one I have (and its spec says it is) then its a brilliant set at an excellent price.
