Isnt it an offence to drive a police car with the lights on, unless in an emergency

I would be very suprised if they didnt know they were on

Yes it is.... flashing lights and sirens are only to be used at certain times ..... if I am wrong about that, I dont care.

And in that case... whenever a police car tries to stop you simply say 'sorry officer, I presumed you were clearly making a mistake'

They are not allowed to use the flashing lights unless... they are responding to an emergency, initiating a traffic stop, bona fide training exercises, or when a specific hazard exists in the road.
i would of told him/her to p1ss off

Probably just making you stop so they can have a quick looksie at the driver, WITHOUT making it an official stop and do the paperwork that goes with it.

Reminds me of the traffic car that led a convoy off the motorway, and down country lanes because he had accidently put his "follow me" sign on behind

I once got stopped for no reason, i asked if i'd done anything wrong and they said "no just a routine stop". they took all my details and my girlfriends then after a few stupid irrelevant questions they were on their way.

10 minutes later as i'd continued on my journey i noticed another classic white sti with gold wheels, high level spoiler, etc.(almost identical to the car i was driving) waiting to come out of a side road.
I assume that was the car they were after.

I did wonder why with a routine spot check they didnt even look at the tyres or anything they obviously realised **** we've stopped the wrong car

I tapped on the window of one once. They were waiting at the lights for a right filter with the brake and headlights flashing (not the blues though weirdly) so i knocked on the window and asked if they'd noticed. Thank apologised, thanked me and turned them off but it was an interesting role reversal for oooh... ten seconds.

5t.

I got a thank you wave off a Blue-lighting copper last night - going through the middle of Derby cycling home, I saw the car coming up to the roundabout I was on and slowed down and waved at the driver to show I'd seen him.

Got a big smile and a wave from the driver and passenger

Never been in that situation when cycling before.

Sounds to me that plod made mistake by having lights on (I guess it happens). Nothing more, no story, move on.

Dunno, but I had a cop pull up next to me with their lights on. I just pointed at the roof and they got the message and said thanks. Guess it's as easy to do as leaving your fog lights on by accident day and night

Do the switches for the flashing lights not light up inside the car when the lights are flashing ? Could they not see the surrounding area being lit up with blue flashes ?

Am I just being too sensible ??

i was following a police car through a town doing around 40. as we exit the town, flashers go on, then he pulls over to the left, and thinking it must have been a 30, pulled in behind him.

both coppers get out and come up to my, by now, wound down window and ask if I am feeling guilty as they are just picking up a temporary police sign!

well done that policeman putting on his flashers to pick up a sign, is he giving the sign a bit of warning to see if its going to make a run for it

Please read the OP's post.

If that had happened to you, you're saying you'd tell them too **** off. Now either you are a naive little kid who likes giving policeman lip for no reason or you have an attitude problem. Either way, to react in the way you are suggesting would be a 1st class ticket to getting the police to stop and give you and your car a good checking over.

Policeman has lights on, didn't realise and apologises to OP and leaves it at that. What else did you expect them to do?

*Jamie* would have told him to **** off, mis-heard the police mans reply, got all excited, talk himself into being arrested, claim to be victimized, infract the policeman and then sulk.

As for being able to read the OP post. Impossible.

Now waits patiently for some red lettering to appear under his name.
