Wink Can I ask for a copy of an MRI scan?

I'm having an MRI scan done next week on my left shoulder. Its morbid curiosity to be honest but I think it would be really interesting to kick back at home and have a look at my internals over a few drinks. I might get the family round lol!
Anyone out there ever asked? Should I take a blank cd along with me?

Andy.

I have the prints of my wife's brain scan but this was after the specialist had finished the treatment so that the next doctor can look if the tumour flares up again (which it looks as though it is sadly).

The consultant didn't have any soft copies, so it may be worth asking at the place that does the scan where the soft copies go / get kept.

Right, cool. I'll do that. BTW hope your wife and yourself for that matter, are feeling much better. Must have been quite an ordeal.

Thanks.

Edited to say I carelessly miss read the part were you indicate the tumours flared up again. So sorry, For what its worth, religious or not, you'll be in my prayers.

It might be different over here but I had an MRI done on my hand a couple of months back then walked out with the films and DVD a couple of days later. They've been seen by the orthopaedic consultant and others and I've still got them at home. Got CAT scan, Ultrasound and x-rays films too.

I've got the same for all the MRI scans I've had on my knee over the last 10 years or so, but that is from being a private patient - don't know if you keep them as an NHS patient.

You are entitled to a copy of your clinical records which includes x-rays etc, it depends on the individual NHS trust. They can take the official route when you have to pay a fee but the admin costs to the hospital are more than the fee so most will just offer a copy at your request.

I'm not sure what format our digital x-rays are stored in as I can only wiew them through our PACS system.

I'd just ask for a copy

I wasn't allowed mine, consultant wanted to see them first. Depends if it's scan and see the consultant or scan and seen through outpatients later ?
