Angry No music at work

Had a visit today at work ... they have now banded us from having the radio / cd's on due to it is public broadcasting

It's all to do with the artisits not selling enough albums ... so what they are thinking is if one person buys a album then the others at the workplace don't have to buy it ..... so they are losing out

surely if we can't listen to the radio we can't hear music we would like to buy

Oh.... we can listen to it but it will cost the company £700 a year !

tossers

anyone else had this yet?

My neighbours engineering company had one of these visits. He took a hammer to the radio and gave it to them in pieces and told them to **** off.

one of my friends owns a hotel and he keeps getting letters from the performing rights people demanding money but he doesn't play any music in his hotel

It's a joke that you can't play a radio

I have had the same letters .... Then a follow up call because I wasn't answering their letters.

I simply said, "so I now have to pay to listen to music in my work van then ?" , they replied "no, sorry, we have wasted your time" .

Wonder what will happen on all the building sites across the country now

this is no surprise at all, never mind the monumental amount of piracy on the internet which cant be enforced, go for the little guy, more of a chance of success.
However,I do like this way of dealing with it:
My neighbours engineering company had one of these visits. He took a hammer to the radio and gave it to them in pieces and told them to **** off.

atraboy.

My company has to pay thousands every year for music on hold on the phone system...!

I did ask why no one has gone and bought a royalty free CD but no one could give an answer.

So when they come in to say " your not aloud this music" we say " We made these tunes , so up ur ole! "

It's a weird one this as artists are complaining about their precious millions being stolen via priacy etc, then you get some Teletubby Boyband like 'McFly' giving away 1,000's of free copies in a sunday paper.

WTF

The music (and film) industry really don't do themselves any favours. They charge a fortune for CDs / DVDs / Cinema tickets and then wonder why people don't by them. They then get uppety when people download tunes that they'd never have parted with £15 for in the first place.

it hinges around what is defined as a public performance I think, if its in a staff area only not sure how this applies....

I really would challenge this.

If broadcasting on the radio to several million listeners is not defined as a public broadcast, then the world truly has gone mental. A CD I can understand. But radio? I would tell them to FO and take me to court.

I wonder if having the radio on in areas that "could" be heard by the general public is teh issue?

By that I mean having a radio on in the customer reception or loud enough to hear out side.

Say if there was a radio in a workshop, in which the public had no access. Then the broadcast is not public?
