Default Ebay fees going up

Got an email this morning, sell the odd few things on there so was interested to see how much it is going up.

Below is just a selection of there increases. Felt like they were taking the **** before, but in some cases they really are going over board on there final valuation fees. 10% of a car you sell under £600! £60 to ebay + the insertion fee! WTF!

Ebay is just becoming a front for Hong Kong box-shifters now, they're not interested in smaller sellers anymore. Don't forget there's Pay Pal fees on top of the Ebay increases as well.

gumtree.com is a good listing place for free. Not an auction site just listings at the price you want.

I bought my Jeep from ebay and had to use paypal to pay for it - £55.

Might check out ebid. It is about time ebay becomes people undfriendly. Allow another site to become popular and then ebay can buy them and make even more money.

use it to your advantage, i advertise a lot of cars on ebay start the price at your asking price, put a tel number in the listing, when it sells, edit the auction to another car, sometimes in a 10 day listing i get 3 cars advertised

I avoid the final value fee by agreeing a no-sale with the buyer or seller once I'm happy/they're happy with the car.

If their fees were reasonable I'd be happy to pay, so their greed means they lose out.

they've spelt photography wrong, so it doesn't count

given the size of the operation, this should put inflation up!

I despise the whole ebay/paypal scamming setup. They take so much of our cash, but basically do sod all to help you out when you need it.

Nope, really don't like the place. The fees now are just getting stupid. By the time you have messed around with insertion fees, final value fees, buy now, paypal, postage, returns, paypal arguments etc....i just put some stuff in the recyle bin. A lot less hassle.

I use Amazon too when selling stuff like phones, books, dvds.
What I like about Amazon is when something is sold, Amazon will only send you an email to dispatch the item once the buyer has PAID and this payment is verified and accepted by Amazon.
Saves so much hassles as I've had so many non-payers on ebay, that I've really lost faith.

Also, the listing is free and I find that no matter what I put up, sooner or later it gets sold. Couple of weeks ago I sold a year old phone that I bought for £110 for £90! Result.

Downsides are, they do also charge fees (though I don't mind paying due to the hassles saved...plus at least u dont have to pay PAYPAL fees) and also you can't sell anything and everything... ie...cars

I've just shut my ebay shop as cost have gone up form £6 to £14.99 and its for s small car club so would barely break even. Its really starting to take the mick now and I really hope someoene comes up with a good alternative as ebay is turning into the sort of place I no longer wish to be. That said its good for marketing and getting your name out there if you know how to use it.

Well, got my last two items on there and they'll be the last, not expensive items but the fees are ridiculous. So that's me done with it.

If more people use it, with luck they may decide to take on eBay. It is about time that we really need a competitor to eBay that is popular and cannot be easily bought out. That way there will be some chance that we the consumer get the best deal...

...that is unless you have faith in the competition commission to wade in and sort eBay out for us all!

Only google are big enough to challenge ebay and they do not seem that interested in competeing.
