not sure where to put this so will try here first
Im Having problems with a new lcd tv and dvd surround sound system.
the tell works 100% and im very happy with it, the dvd works and im very happy with it, but, the problem is the surround sound which is linked to the dvd player. I can get surround sound out of it when i play a cd or dvd, but i cant get surround sound when im just watching telly.
am i doing something wrong, does it not work with just telly? is it connected properly even, i have all the speakers in the correct terminals on the back of the dvd player, and a scart lead from the dvd to the telly, but as of yet no hdmi cable as i havnt had chance to go out and get one yet.
Have i missed something else, or am i going slightly mad.
any help greatfully received
forgot to mention, the tv and dvd player surround sound is all samsung brand.

Isnt it a simple case, of CDs DVDs being programmed for surround sound, ie, when you use the software with a surround sound system, the particular sounds are programmed to come out left right back front etc....Im not sure if normal tv has gone beyond that, maybe sky or soemthing, but i dont know, just a guess...

thanks for the replies people, i thought i had sorted the sound feed from telly to dvd when fitting the scart, i thought scart leads carried sound and vision??
the surround sound is connected into the back of the dvd player and doesnt have any switches or anything on the back of it, so not sure about how i go about this.
will the problem be sorted if i just connect via hdmi cables instead of messing about with scart leads and audio cables?

As the others have said. On the back of your DVD player you should have an audio input - connect that to your audio output on the TV and select that input. The SCART cable you've got is used for carrying your picture (and sound if you were using the TV for sound) from the DVD player to the TV. It doesn't pass sound back down (as it's plugged into a TV input not output)...
It will probably be two connectors - one for left and one for right

Things might have moved on...but the "one box" dvd surround systems never used to handle a NERO 6 feed. You needed a seperate pro-logic amp, do you have one of those? If so then above solution is correct, if not then my "up to date" knowledge of these one box systems is limited!
Good luck
