Going to a south african mates for a BBQ tomorrow and hes promised me the best ribs ever and Boerewors (sausages apparently). Which got me onto thinking the last time tried ribs and they came out pretty naff.
Do peeps boil/bake before hand to get the meat tender? Any recommendations for recipes would be good as one of my fave meats when I eat out.

I got some ribs from Lidl last week, they are in a plastic bag you put in the microwave for 5 minutes. They were fantastic for a quick meal, I did them with some corn on the cob and new potatoes. Never tried to cook ribs from scratch before.

You can buy streaky strips which look like ribs but are boneless and really tasty. I then leave them soaking in a b-b-q marinade and partially cook in oven before finishing off on barbie (brai in Afrikans
) and basting with what's left of marinade. Really nice and still tasty next day when you are all sober again!! dl

Plunge in boiling water for 30 seconds to a minute then remove. Then gently in some stock with star anis and other herbs and spices to suit for about an hour.
Make up some BBQ sauce or buy in and then marinade over night.

No it was S&M. Lidel opened in Uddingston a good few years ago but I never ventured into it until new year's eve when all the other shops were shut. It's now my favourite shop. Loads cheaper with good quality veg, cheese, meat and crap you never need.
Need to make some cut backs to keep the 911 in tyres and petrol.

Serves 2-4
For the marinade.....
4 tbsp Hoisin sauce
2tbsp Soy sauce
4tbsp Runny honey
1tbsp Tomato ketchup
1tbsp Rice wine vinegar
1tsp Ground ginger
For the ribs.........
3lb (1.3kg) Pork ribs, separated if necessary.
1. Mis together the ingredients for the marinade and pour into two or more freezer bags ( I just use a big one). Add pork ribs and toss well in the sauce. Leave in fridge overnight or for at least 3 hours.
2. Pre-heat oven to 180C/Gas 4. Empty ribs into roasting tin and pour over the marinade, rubbing into the ribs using your hands. Cook for 1 hour, turning every now and then until tender.
I have another recipe with black treacle, which is nice.
