Default Sales job interview help

I currently sell giftware and i am going for a job interview for a advertising company next week and they want to prepare something for this question. I also get stuck on this question in interviews. Can anyone give me some tips.

The Question is ?

In preparation for the Behavioural Event Part of the interview, we would ask you to think about a task or project that you have been involved in during the past 6-12 months. During the interview we will ask you to talk through the task or project and your involvement in it.

Thanks

One day you fancied a cup of tea. So you made yourself one......... end of story!

Just kidding mate.

Have you done anythig over the said time period that illustrates what they are asking?

Sounds to me like they are giving you the chance to sell yourself. They want to know what decent projects you have been involved in, and to talk about your specific involvement.

In other words, have you done well by gaining a new / important customer of your own accord? Did you have to meet them, develop a presentation, custom make any samples etc.

That would be my interpretation.

Just re-read your question, are they asking about this in relation to your personal life?

Well then, list some points from your previous employment that show this.
To be fair, this is the kind of question they throw in to try and trip you up.
I will give you an example of something similar from my line if work. (Marine and industrial transmission sales engineer)

1) customer rings in with an order of Borg Warner spares (very old marine gearbox)
2) I advise parts will be difficult to source but will see what I can do. (so he kind of expects to be unable to repair his customers gearbox.
3) After milking my sources in the UK and USA, I can get 99% of his order.
4) The last part (clutch piston) involves me going down to our workshop, stripping down an old BW box on my lunch break, obtaining the piston, checking it's structual integrity, clean it up, pop it in with his order foc and send him the goods. Two weeks later a get a bottle of whisky as a thank you from the customer who now buys spares from me quite often.

Yes, I know it might not quite be what you are looking for, but, as long as you show that you can,

A) identify a problem
B) analyse the problem
C) identify the solution
D) implement the solution

you should be fine. (just don't waffle on! )
